Lynda Carter Added to Arts Festival Lineup

LyndaCarter-AtLastThirty years ago, Lynda Carter could extend her arms, start spinning and turn into “Wonder Woman.” Now, the actress puts on lipstick, grabs a microphone and becomes a chanteuse.

Carter, who is most recognized for her years spent as a superhero, has reinvented her career in recent years as a singer of standards and Broadway tunes. She’ll be bringing her singing talents to the stage of the Williamsburg Lodge as the most recent addition to the Virginia Arts Festival. Carter will perform two cabaret performances as part of the Festival Williamsburg lineup on May 29. She replaces Broadway actress and “30 Rock” star Jane Krakowski, who is expecting a baby later this spring.

Carter, who has been singing professionally since the age of 14, considers music her first love. She released her first album, “Portrait,” in 1978 and 31 years later, released “At Last” in 2009. She performs covers of love songs and standards, including “You Send Me” and “Cry Me a River.”

Since relaunching her music career, Carter has performed as “Mama Morton” in the West End production of “Chicago,” and began touring the U.S. with her one-woman cabaret show in 2007. “At Last” peaked at number 10 on the Billboard Jazz Albums Chart.

Carter’s concert is part of the Festival Williamsburg weekend, which also includes performances by jazz legends Chick Corea and Gary Burton on May 27 and swing band Big Bad Voodoo Daddy on May 28. For a complete listing of events and ticket information, click here or call (757) 282-2822.
