By WYDaily Staff Thursday, February 02, 2012

whatyoulldo
Well, 2012 is one-twelfth of the way to completion. We think of January as the resting month, our time well-spent on preparing for all our weekend options to come during the ensuing 11 months. Here's a warning: We hope you are well-rested, because there are a lot of great events going on this weekend.

Should you find yourself wondering where we find all this great stuff to do – or maybe even why your fabulous, don’t-miss-it event isn’t listed - here’s the answer: We rely on our calendar (it’s called Talk of the Town, and it’s on the right-hand side of the WYDaily.com homepage) for our best bets. All are welcome to post their events on it, for free. So use it, please, and for events happening this weekend please share them below in the comments. To the weekend!

Benefits of living in a college town
The constitutional conversation continues -
The second year of the Constitutional Conversations program continues Thursday at 6:30 p.m. on the topic of the role of judges at the Williamsburg Regional Library with age-appropriate workshops for adults and middle- and high-school students. This month’s workshop will explore how the various provisions of the Constitution and Bill of Rights protect our most precious civil rights and civil liberties. The text of the Constitution contains few provisions concerning individual liberties. In part, this was because the framers believed that an enumeration of rights was unnecessary. The government they had created was one of limited powers. Government officials were not authorized to violate basic liberties. Additionally, many framers believed that the enumeration of some rights would lead individuals to believe those not listed were not protected. Despite this, a Bill of Rights, protecting individual rights, was ultimately drafted and ratified. The middle school and high school workshop topic is The First Amendment: Freedom of Expression. The Lemon Project celebration of dance -

This is the kick-off event leading up to the second annual Lemon Project Symposium, which is slated for March 17. Admission if free, but tickets are required and may be obtained at the College of William and Mary Box Office. Click here for details.

Celebrate Groundhog Day at night
Will we have six more weeks of winter – we know, has it even started? – or will the groundhog indicate spring is right around the corner? We’ll all find out Thursday morning, but on Thursday night the Virginia Living Museum celebrates with an evening of winter and spring activities: treats, crafts, children's activities, planetarium programs and a visit from the museum's own groundhog. It happens from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Adults $5, children $4; planetarium tickets an additional $2. Click here for details.
