NN/W'burg Airport Adds Non-stop Service to Denver on Frontier

newportnewsairportlogoNewport News/Williamsburg International Airport has a new airline and a new non-stop route that opens the west to more convenient travel.

Beginning May 3, Frontier Airlines will begin new non-stop jet service between its Denver International Airport (DEN) hub and the Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport (PHF). Frontier will operate four weekly flights between Newport News/Williamsburg International and Denver utilizing the 99-seat E190 aircraft for about the first month. On June 4, Frontier Airlines will upgrade the service utilizing the 128-seat Airbus 318. Tickets go on sale February 14, and can be purchased online at the Frontier Airlines Web site.

Airport officials were pleased with the airport's latest news.

“Non-stop service to the west has been a goal of the Peninsula Airport Commission for quite some time now and we are delighted to be making this announcement today,” said Herbert H. Bateman, Jr., chairman of the Peninsula Airport Commission.

Newport News Mayor Joe S. Frank praised the addition of a western route as another option for area's diverse group of travelers.

“We have long known that our Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport is a regional treasure and today's announcement serves to enhance its value," said Frank, adding he expects passenger counts to continue to rise at the local airport. "The addition of Frontier Airlines non-stop service west greatly expands the geographic network for business, leisure, government and military travelers."

Flights will operate between Denver and Newport News on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Flights will depart Denver at 10:50 a.m. and arrive in Newport News at 4:15 p.m. Passengers will take off from Newport News at 5:25 p.m. and arrive in Denver at 7:26 p.m.

In addition to Frontier come May, the Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport is served by AirTran Airways, Delta Air Lines and US Airways, serving seven non-stop cities and providing connections worldwide. The airport is currently undergoing a $23 million  upgrade to make flying more convenient out of the Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport.
