Air Traffic Continues Upward Trend for NN/W'burg

newportnewsairportlogoThe first weeks of summer proved to be strong ones for travel through the Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport.

Passenger traffic was up 7.8 percent in June, with 104,843 air travelers using the airport compared with 97,278 passengers in June 2009.

That follows a strong May, which saw a year-over-year increase of 8.5 percent and an all-time high for May passenger travel.

“The Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport continues to grow and improve to meet the needs of our passengers. With great low fare service, key non-stop destinations, courtesy skycap assistance and shuttle service in the parking lots, the airport continues to be a great choice whether traveling for business or pleasure,” said Herbert H. Bateman, Jr., Chairman of the Peninsula Airport Commission.

The airport's executive director was also encouraged by the strong performance.

“We have experienced a busy summer at the airport and are extremely pleased with the growth we continue to see," said airport chief Ken R. Spirito. "Passenger loyalty, short security wait times and on-time flights have all contributed to our success. We hope to see this trend continue into the winter months as we continue our commitment to excellent service and customer satisfaction.”

The Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport is served by four airlines: AirTran Airways, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines and US Airways with non-stop service to seven domestic destinations (Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Denver, NY-LaGuardia, Orlando and Philadelphia) and connections throughout the world.
