Small Business in New Town Expands

A local James City County business, Harbour Coffee, is opening a new location in Williamsburg.

Harbour Coffee is a gourmet coffee shop and roastery located on Discovery Park Boulevard in New Town. The new, smaller location will be located at 1660 Richmond Road, attached to the Spoon Diner.

Harbour owner John Stein says it has been a tough three years financially for his New Town location, “but things are turning around now, thanks to our faithful customers who kept coming out and staying the course with us.”

One way Stein helped his business improve is by starting to supply local restaurants with his own gourmet roasted beans. Currently, Harbour Coffee is served at the Trellis Restaurant, Food For Thought and a few other restaurants in the area, and will soon be served at the Black Angus Grill.

Stein says he’s excited about bringing his coffee bar to the city, and he’s been pleased by the warm welcome by the city’s economic development staff.

The new location is only about 400 square feet, Stein says, and will be set up like an espresso bar with limited inside seating and food. He’ll serve only drip coffee, espresso drinks, bags of Harbour’s coffee beans, smoothies and pastries baked at the New Town location.

Aside from serving mostly take-out customers, the new location will also serve coffee to Spoon patrons.

“I love the location,” Stein says, “and it’s a great mix to have the [coffee] bar attached to a restaurant.”

The new location is set to open April 1.
