Get a Taste of Williamsburg TuesdayBy Amber Lester Monday, April 12, 2010 Williamsburg area foodies and wine lovers are invited to pamper their palates Tuesday at “The Taste of Williamsburg.”The event, presented by the Greater Williamsburg Chamber & Tourism Alliance, will feature food and beverages from 15 of the area’s best eateries. The 17th annual Taste of Williamsburg will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Virginia Room of the Williamsburg Lodge. In addition to sampling food from the 15 dining and catering establishments, guests will have the opportunity to learn more about pairing food with wine from Colonial Williamsburg Executive Chef Rhys Lewis and Sommelier Charles Birr. The presentation, called “Care for Cheese with that Whine,” will be from 6:30 to 7 p.m. The restaurants and caterers this year include Aberdeen Barn, Berret’s Restaurant and Taphouse Grill, Café Provencal at the Williamsburg Winery, Colonial Heritage Club, the Genuine Smithfield Ham Shoppe of Williamsburg, Great Wolf Lodge, Kings Arms Tavern, Kilwin’s Chocolate Shoppe, Opus 9, Riverwalk Restaurant, Wasabi Oriental Buffet, William & Mary Catering, Williamsburg AleWerks, Williamsburg Inn and Williamsburg Lodge. Some of the dishes will include Day Boat scallops on spring vegetable risotto with tamarind sauce; a BLT made with pork belly, heirloom tomato, butter lettuce and white truffle aioli on a brioche crouton; a cranberry Bellini station and more. At the end of the evening, awards are presented to four establishments for their work. A panel of judges from the media and food industry of the region chooses the awards, which include the “Critics Choice Award,” “Best Themed Presentation,” “Toast of the Taste” and “People’s Choice.” Each ticket includes a tear-off ballot for the People’s Choice award.
