Colonial Williamsburg will hold Junior Interpreter recruitment expos for youth ages 10 to 18 on Saturday, Jan. 23 from 10:30 a.m. to noon and Tuesday, Jan. 26 from 5:30 to 7 p.m., both at the Bruton Heights Education Center, 301 First Street in the city. Colonial Williamsburg’s junior volunteers interact with guests to bring a youth’s perspective to the guest experience. After training, junior volunteers are assigned to various sites in the Historic Area to play games with children, give tours, perform in programs, talk with guests and actively demonstrate what growing up was like in 18th-century Williamsburg. Junior volunteers are being recruited for the Brickyard; Benjamin Powell House; Dance/Performing Arts; the Geddy House and Foundry; the Wythe House; historic farming; and junior orientation interpreters. The expos provide volunteer opportunities for residents of the City of Williamsburg, James City County and the Upper District of York County. Youngsters who will be 10 by June 1 are eligible to apply. Colonial Williamsburg Representatives from programs with openings will be available at the expos to answer questions. Interested youth and a parent/guardian must attend one of the expos, complete an application and have a pre-screening interview during the expo. Second interviews and selection are held in February and March. Those selected for the Junior Interpreter program must be available to attend training sessions in April and May. A parent or guardian must be available to attend the initial training session in April. For more information, please contact the Colonial Williamsburg volunteer office at (757) 220-7181. |
