Mathews a Finalist for Louisiana JobBy WYDaily Staff Wednesday, January 27, 2010 Williamsburg James City Schools Superintendent Gary Mathews is on a short list of applicants to lead a small Louisiana public school division. The West Feliciana Parish School Board narrowed its list from 11 to four Tuesday night. The division's Web site describes the parish as rural, with a total population just under 16,000. The parish serves 2,475 children, "birth through 12th grade," the Web site says. The West Feliciana board will interview the four finalists, probably in early March. Mathews told the WJC school board in November that he wouldn't seek another contract here, and that he intended to seek a job closer to aging parents. Mathews was among a group of four finalists for Mississippi's state superintendent of education, but learned he did not get the job just before his public announcement he would be stepping down. |
