Here Comes the Weather: Closings, Postponements - Updated 2:55 P.M.

The really bad weather isn't supposed to hit anywhere near the Historic Triangle, but weather conditions were expected to be dicey enough Friday night and Saturday to force the following closures. If you have closings, cancellations or postponements, email them to contactus@wydaily.com and we will be sure to post them as we update the list throughout the storm.

Williamsburg-James City County Schools Superintendent Gary Mathews has announced the following event cancellations, given the inclement weather conditions that are likely in our area and north of James City County:

All athletic events scheduled for New Kent tonight, Friday, Feb. 5, are canceled. All other events and activities scheduled for February 5 will go on. The Lafayette vs. Jamestown swim meet will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Fort Eustis Aquatics Center.

All athletic and other events in WJCC scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 6, are canceled.

The February 6 administration of the ACT, scheduled to be given at Lafayette High School, has been canceled. The rescheduled test date will be posted on the ACT Web site.

The York County School Division has canceled all after-school activities for Friday, and all events scheduled for Saturday.

The Williamsburg Regional Library will be closed on Saturday, Feb. 6.  This includes the Williamsburg Library, the James City County Library, and Mobile Library Services. A decision on opening on Sunday, Feb. 7 will be made Sunday morning. Please see the WRL Web site or call 259-4040 for further information. "Storytime with the Arts - Madeline and Her Friends Go to the Theatre," originally scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Williamsburg Library Theatre, 515 Scotland St., has been rescheduled by the presenters to Saturday, March 13 at 11 a.m. in the same location.  For more information, call (757) 259-4055.

Williamsburg Montessori's Mardi Gras Festival and Auction planned for Saturday has been postponed to March 6 because of inclement weather.

James City County Library's Saturday Poetry Series scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. has been canceled by the presenter.

The Citizens for Education Community Conversation planned for Saturday, Feb. 6 at the Bruton Heights Education Center has been postponed. A new date has not yet been announced.

The Wolfgang Relay for Life team was supposed to hold their indoor yard sale from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday at Norge Elementary  but weather has pushed it to next Saturday, Feb. 13, same time.

King of Glory Preschool and Kindergarten's annual From the Heart...For the Kids auction and spaghetti dinner, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 6, has been postponed to Sunday, Feb. 28.

All Chesapeake Bank branches will be closed Saturday due to weather.

The College of William and Mary's Charter Day festivities have been scaled back. The Birthday Bash and Charter Day dinner have been canceled, but the ceremony featuring Gov. Bob McDonnell will go on as planned at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Home Sweet Home Care Inc. employees, please follow Schedule B for Saturday, Feb. 6 and Sunday, Feb. 7.

Waller Mill Park in Williamsburg is closed Saturday, Feb. 6 due to weather.

James City County emergency officials continue to monitor winter weather conditions. Due to the inclement weather, the James City/Williamsburg Community Center closed at 1 p.m. today, Feb. 6.  The James River Community Center, which was scheduled to open at noon, will not open.

Residents are advised to stay tuned to local media for the latest weather updates. County closings and weather-related information will be posted on the County Web site; JCC TV48, Facebook and the County’s emergency hotline, (757) 875-2424. Jamestown Settlement and the Yorktown Victory Center are closed on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 6, because of the winter storm.
