VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: Feb. 7-13By WYDaily Staff Sunday, February 07, 2010 In an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events - and weather has been a big factor of late. JAMES RIVER BRIDGE Route 17 South – Motorists should expect single lane closures from River Road to Kings Cove Way for repair and maintenance of bridge traffic signals, CCTV and VMS structures, Monday, Feb. 8, through Friday, Feb. 12, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. HAMPTON/CHESAPEAKE I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Mallory Street (Exit 268) to Military Highway (Exit 297) for pothole repair, Sunday, Feb. 7, through Saturday, Feb. 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. HAMPTON/NEWPORT NEWS I-664 NORTH/SOUTH – Motorists should expect a single lane closure from the I-64 interchanges (Exit 1) through Warwick Boulevard (Exit 5) to set temporary concrete barriers, Monday, Feb. 8, through Thursday, Feb. 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. NEWPORT NEWS Jefferson Avenue Widening Project Route 143 North/South – Through March 2010, motorists should expect alternating lane closures and traffic shifts on Jefferson Avenue from Buchanan Drive to King’s Ridge for construction activity, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Motorists should expect a new traffic pattern for the duration of the project. The work zone is now between both directions of travel lanes, eliminating left turn lanes, except those allowable at intersections. Warwick Boulevard East/West Route 60 – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures for construction activities on Warwick Boulevard from Nettles Drive to J. Clyde Morris Blvd. Sunday through Saturday. Anticipate overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on both east and west bound lanes. Daytime lane closures should be expected daily from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on east and west bound lanes. These lane closures will be in affect through project completion in March 2010. Motorists should expect daytime and night time lane closures on Warwick Boulevard, both east and west bound for the duration of the project in order to complete paving operations, signalization and lighting installation, landscaping and other work necessary to compete the project. Business entrances could be affected for short periods while paving machines move past the entrances. NEWPORT NEWS/SUFFOLK I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the I-64 Interchange to Route 17 (Exit 9) for pothole repair, Monday, Feb. 8, through Saturday, Feb. 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. SUFFOLK I-664 North- Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on the College Drive access ramp for maintenance to the tunnel over-height monitoring system, Wednesday, Feb. 10, and Thursday, Feb. 11, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday, Feb. 7, through Friday, Feb. 12, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011. Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations. For more project information, please visit the VDOT Web site. MONITOR-MERRIMAC MEMORIAL BRIDGE-TUNNEL I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the approach bridge through the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel for electronic sign, signal and camera maintenance, Monday, Feb. 8, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9. DOWNTOWN TUNNEL I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures through the Downtown Tunnel, over the Berkley Bridge and at I-464 on and off ramps, for sweeping operations Monday, Feb. 8, and Friday, Feb. 12, from midnight to 5 a.m. I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures through the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel lighting repair, Wednesday, Feb. 10, and Thursday, Feb. 11, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. MIDTOWN TUNNEL Route 58 East – Motorists should expect a single lane closure at the Midtown Tunnel for tunnel lighting repair, Monday, Feb. 8, and Tuesday, Feb. 9, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. NORFOLK Hampton Boulevard Grading Project Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures, both north and south bound on Hampton Boulevard between “B” Avenue and Rogers Avenue for utility operations, Monday, Feb. 8 through Friday, Feb. 12, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists should be alert for a Greenbrier Avenue detour Monday, Feb. 8 through Friday, Feb. 12, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. PORTSMOUTH Route 164 West Norfolk Bridge – Motorists should expect a single lane shoulder closures for bridge repair Sunday, Feb. 7, through Saturday, Feb. 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. PORTSMOUTH/NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect a single mobile alternating lane closure from First Colonial Road (Exit 21) through the I-464 Interchange (Exit 8) for sweeping and drain cleaning operations, Sunday, Feb. 7, through Saturday, Feb. 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect a mobile lane closure from First Colonial Road (Exit 21) through Bowers Hill (Exit 1) for pothole repair, Sunday, Feb. 7, through Saturday, Feb. 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. CHESAPEAKE I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Monday, Feb. 8, through Friday, Feb. 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work. Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue through August 2011. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single lane closures from Battlefield Boulevard to Route 17 George Washington Highway (Exit 296) for lane and shoulder paving operations, Tuesday, Feb. 9, through Friday, Feb. 12, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Joliff Road/Airline Boulevard/Military Highway – Motorists should expect alternating single lane closures at the intersection of Joliff Road, Airline Boulevard and Military Highway to Flintfield Crescent for utility and signal installation operations, Monday, Feb. 8, through Saturday, Feb. 13, from 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. GILMERTON BRIDGE Route 13 South Military Highway – The Gilmerton Bridge will be reduced to one lane in both directions, from the Bainbridge interchange to Shell Road. Motorists should be alert to this new traffic pattern, which will remain in place through June, 2011. CHESAPEAKE/HAMPTON I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single mobile lane closures from High Rise Bridge to Mallory Street (Exit 268) for shoulder sweeping and drain cleaning operations, Sunday, Feb. 7, through Saturday, Feb. 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. VIRGINIA BEACH Lynnhaven Parkway North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on Lynnhaven Parkway between Holland Road and Lishelle Place for paving operations, Monday, Feb. 8, through Friday, Feb. 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. CHINCOTEAGUE ISLAND/ACCOMAC Route 175 East/West – Motorists should expect the causeway at the West end of the Black Narrows Bridge to be open to alternating one-way traffic controlled by a traffic light through the end of the year. Motorists should also expect periodic lane closures throughout the duration of the project, Monday through Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. |
