VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: Feb. 21-27By WYDaily Staff Sunday, February 21, 2010 In an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events. YORK COUNTY Route 17 North/South – Motorists should expect a traffic shift and lane reductions between Route 634 and Route 105 on Route 17 in York County at the CSX railroad crossing. CSX will perform maintenance on the Amoco Industrial Track that crosses Route 17 in York beginning Friday, February 19, at 8 p.m. through Sunday, February 21, at 8 p.m. One lane will be open in both directions at all times; however, motorists should expect delays. Alternate routes include Jefferson Avenue (Route 143), I-64, and Route 60. COLEMAN BRIDGE Route 17 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures for sweeping operations in both directions, Thursday, February 25, and Friday, February 26, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. HAMPTON/CHESAPEAKE I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Mallory Street (Exit 268) to the High Rise Bridge for pothole repair, Sunday, February 21, through Saturday, February 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. NEWPORT NEWS/SUFFOLK I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the I-64 Interchange to Route 17 (Exit 9) for pothole repair, Monday, February 21, through Saturday, February 27, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. JAMES RIVER BRIDGE Route 17 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures for sweeping operations in both directions, Monday, February 22 through Wednesday, February 23, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. NEWPORT NEWS Jefferson Avenue Widening Project Route 143 North/South – Through March 2010, motorists should expect alternating lane closures and traffic shifts on Jefferson Avenue from Buchanan Drive to King’s Ridge for construction activity, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Motorists should expect a new traffic pattern for the duration of the project. The work zone is now between both directions of travel lanes, eliminating left turn lanes, except those allowable at intersections. Warwick Boulevard East/West Route 60 – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures for construction activities on Warwick Boulevard from Nettles Drive to J. Clyde Morris Blvd. Sunday through Saturday. Anticipate overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on both east and west bound lanes. Daytime lane closures should be expected daily from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on east and west bound lanes. These lane closures will be in effect through project completion in March 2010. Motorists should expect daytime and nighttime lane closures on Warwick Boulevard, both east and west bound for the duration of the project in order to complete paving operations, signalization and lighting installation, landscaping, & other work necessary to compete the project. Business entrances could be impacted for short periods while paving machines move past the entrances. HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday, February 21, through Thursday, February 25, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011. Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations. For more project information, please visit the VDOT Web site. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect a mobile lane closure at the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel for navigational lighting system maintenance, Tuesday, February 23, and Wednesday, February 24, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. DOWNTOWN TUNNEL I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures through the Downtown Tunnel, over the Berkley Bridge and at I-464 on and off ramps, for sweeping operations Monday, February 22, and Friday, February 26, from midnight to 5 a.m. MIDTOWN TUNNEL Route 58 North/South – Motorists should expect single lane closures in the Midtown Tunnel for drain cleaning and tunnel maintenance, Sunday, February 21, through Friday, February 26, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. NORFOLK Hampton Boulevard Grading Project Motorists should expect multiple lane closures, both north and south bound on Hampton Boulevard between “B” Avenue and Rogers Avenue for utility operations, Monday, February 22 through Friday, February 26, from 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. PORTSMOUTH Route 164 West Norfolk Bridge – Motorists should expect a single lane shoulder closure for bridge repair Sunday, February 21, through Friday, February 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. PORTSMOUTH/NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect a single mobile alternating lane closure from First Colonial Road (Exit 21) through the I-464 Interchange (Exit 8) for sweeping and drain cleaning operations, Sunday, February 21, through Friday, February 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect a mobile lane closure from First Colonial Road (Exit 21) through Bowers Hill (Exit 1) for pothole repair, Sunday, February 21, through Saturday, February 27, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. CHESAPEAKE/NORFOLK I-464 South – Motorists should expect single lane closures between Military Highway (Exit 2) and Main Street (Exit 5) for guardrail maintenance, Sunday, February 21, through Friday, February 26, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-264 West – Motorists should expect a single lane closure at the City Hall on-ramp to I-264 West for guardrail repair, Monday, February 22, from midnight to 5 a.m. CHESAPEAKE I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the I-264 Interchange (Exit 299) for guardrail repair, Monday, February 22, from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. I-664 South – Motorists should expect a single lane closure at Bowers Hill Route 13, Route 58 & Route 460 (Exit 14) for guardrail repair, Monday, February 22, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-664 South – Motorists should expect a single lane closure one mile before the I-264 interchange for guardrail repair, Monday, February 22, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-264 West – Motorists should expect a single lane closure on the I-264 West off ramp to I-64 West for guardrail repair, Monday, February 22, from 9 p.m. to midnight. CHESAPEAKE/HAMPTON I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single mobile lane closures from Military Highway (Exit 297) to Mallory Street (Exit 268) for pothole repair, Sunday, February 21, through Saturday, February 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. VIRGINIA BEACH Lynnhaven Parkway North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on Lynnhaven Parkway between Holland Road and Lishelle Place for paving operations, Monday, February 22, through Friday, February 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. SUSSEX COUNTY Route 35 North/South – Motorists should expect single mobile lane closures on Route 35 from Route 622 North to Route 626 South for pavement marking operations, Monday, February 22, through Friday, April 19, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. CHINCOTEAGUE ISLAND/ACCOMAC Route 175 East/West –Motorists should expect the causeway at the west end of the Black Narrows Bridge to be open to alternating one-way traffic controlled by a traffic light through the end of April. Motorists should also expect periodic lane closures throughout the duration of the project, Monday through Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures in both directions from City Hall Avenue exit to First Colonial Road exit for pothole repair, Saturday, February 20, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH/CHESAPEAKE I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures in both directions from the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel to the High Rise Bridge for pothole repair, Sunday, February 21, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. |
