Closures Ahead on Parkway Near YorktownBy WYDaily Staff Friday, March 19, 2010 A one-mile segment of the Colonial Parkway between Route 17 and the Yorktown Battlefield Visitor Center will be closed for repair work on the 65-year-old Yorktown Creek bridge. The closure will begin in about a week and a half - on Monday, March 29.It’s part of bridgework all along the parkway. The length of the closure is dependent upon weather conditions and the extent of structural work that may be necessary. Repair work on the Beaver Dam Creek bridge will also begin on Monday, March 29. This bridge is located on the West (Encampment) Tour Road of the Yorktown Battlefield. The West Tour Road, a secondary driving tour of the battlefield, will be closed during the construction, so no detour route will be used. The Colonial Parkway work is part of a $2.35 million contract to make repairs and other improvements to bridges and access ramps along the Colonial Parkway. The contract also includes the work currently underway on the Powhatan Creek bridge on the Jamestown end of the parkway. The entire project is being funded and supervised by the Federal Highway Administration. |
