VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: March 21-27By WYDaily Staff Sunday, March 21, 2010 In an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events - and remember, it is spring and the construction season is about to begin in earnest. JAMES RIVER BRIDGE Route 17 North – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from River Road to Kings Cove Way for utility operations and traffic barrier repairs, Tuesday, March 23, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. In the event of inclement weather the rain date is Wednesday, March 24. Route 17 North/South – Motorists should expect single lane closures over the James River Bridge for bridge deck repairs, Sunday, March 21, through Friday, March 26, from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. HAMPTON I-64 East – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Hampton Roads Center Parkway (Exit 261) to Mallory Street (Exit 268) for guardrail replacement Monday, March 22, through Friday, March 26, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. HAMPTON/NEWPORT NEWS I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect single lane closures from Warwick Boulevard (Exit 5) to the I-64 Interchange (Exit 1) for concrete paving operations, Monday, March 22, through Thursday, March 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-664 North – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from Warwick Boulevard (Exit 5) to the I-64 Interchange (Exit 1) for concrete grinding operations, Monday, March 22, through Thursday, March 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A detour will be established at 34th Street and Huntington. Motorists will take Jefferson Avenue to the Chestnut Avenue on-ramp to I-664. NEWPORT NEWS/SUFFOLK I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures on I-664 to the I-64 interchange in Bowers Hill for pothole repair, Monday, March 22, through Friday, March 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. NEWPORT NEWS I-664 South – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures near Roanoke Avenue for sign repair and maintenance, Thursday, March 26, through Friday, March 26, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Jefferson Avenue Widening Project Route 143 North/South – Through March 2010, motorists should expect alternating lane closures and traffic shifts on Jefferson Avenue from Buchanan Drive to King’s Ridge for construction activity, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Motorists should expect a new traffic pattern for the duration of the project. The work zone is now between both directions of travel lanes, eliminating left turn lanes, except those allowable at intersections. Warwick Boulevard East/West Route 60 – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures for construction activities on Warwick Boulevard from Nettles Drive to J. Clyde Morris Blvd. Sunday through Saturday. Anticipate overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on both east- and westbound lanes. Daytime lane closures should be expected daily from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on east- and westbound lanes. These lane closures will be in effect through project completion this month. Motorists should expect daytime and night time lane closures on Warwick Boulevard, both east- and westbound for the duration of the project in order to complete paving operations, signalization and lighting installation, landscaping, & other work necessary to compete the project. Business entrances could be affected for short periods while paving machines move past the entrances. MONITOR-MERRIMAC MEMORIAL BRIDGE-TUNNEL I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures beginning on the approach bridge, through the Tunnel and to the exiting island bridge, for roadway, lighting and tunnel maintenance, Sunday, March 21, through Wednesday, March 24, from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Motorists should expect intermittent traffic stoppages of up to 15 minutes. HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL I-64 East – Motorists should expect a left lane closure from the approach bridge, through the Tunnel and to the south island, for roadway lighting repairs Sunday, March 21, from 4 to 10 a.m. I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday, March 21, through Friday, March 26, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011. Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations. For more project information, please visit the VDOT Web site. DOWNTOWN TUNNEL I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures through the Downtown Tunnel, over the Berkley Bridge and at I-464 on and off ramps, for sweeping operations Monday, March 22, through Friday, March 26, from midnight to 5 a.m. I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect single lane closures from the Downtown Tunnel to I-64 Tidewater Drive (Exit 277) for pothole repair, Monday, March 22, through Friday, March 26, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. NORFOLK I-564 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the Runway Tunnel for tunnel lighting repairs, Sunday, March 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from the I-464 Interchange to Bowers Hill for pothole patching and milling operations, Monday, March 22, through Friday, March 26, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hampton Boulevard Grading Project Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures, both north and south bound on Hampton Boulevard between “B” Avenue and Rogers Avenue for utility operations, Monday, March 22, through Friday, March 26, from 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. Portions of Greenbrier Avenue will be closed to all traffic beginning Monday, March 22. A detour has been established. Motorists should be alert to detour signs and new traffic patterns in the area. Virginia Beach Boulevard East/West – Motorists should expect alternating single lane closures between Military Highway and Jett Street for concrete curbing and sidewalk construction from Monday, March 22, through Saturday, March 27, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. PORTSMOUTH I-264 West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from the Downtown Tunnel exit to Bowers Hill for paving operations, Sunday, March 21, through Friday, March 26, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Route 164 West Norfolk Bridge – Motorists should expect a single lane shoulder closures for bridge repair through March 31, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. PORTSMOUTH/NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect a mobile lane closure from First Colonial Road (Exit 21) through Bowers Hill (Exit 1) for pothole repair, Monday, March 22, through Friday, March 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. HIGH RISE BRIDGE I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect a single mobile lane closures at the High Rise Bridge for sweeping and drain cleaning operations operating, Wednesday, March 22, through Friday, March 26, from 9 a.m. to midnight. CHESAPEAKE I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Monday, March 22, through Friday, March 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work. Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue through August 2011. Joliff Road/Airline Boulevard/Military Highway – Motorists should expect alternating single lane closures at the intersection of Joliff Road, Airline Boulevard and Military Highway to Flintfield Crescent for utility and signal installation operations, Monday, March 22, through Friday, March 26, from 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Mt. Pleasant Road South/Fentress Airfield Road West – Motorists should expect a single lane closure on Mt. Pleasant Road and Fentress Airfield Road to Blackwater Road for utility relocation operations, Monday, March 22, through Friday, March 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from George Washington Highway/Route 17 (Exit 296) to Battlefield Boulevard (Exit 290) for roadway and guardrail maintenance, Sunday, March 22, through Friday, March 26, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. VIRGINIA BEACH I-264 East – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Lynnhaven Parkway (Exit 19) for message sign repair and maintenance, Wednesday, March 24, and Thursday, March 25, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Lynnhaven Parkway North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on Lynnhaven Parkway between Holland Road and Lishelle Place for crosswalk and paving operations, Monday, March 22, through Friday, March 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Witchduck Road North/South –Motorists should expect single lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road for drain pipe installation, Monday March 22, through Friday, March 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ISLE OF WIGHT Route 258 South – Motorists should expect alternating right and left lane closures on Route 258 South, between Route 10 and Route 17, including the deceleration ramp from Route 17 South to Route 258 South on Brewer’s Neck Boulevard for paving operations, Monday through Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday, from 7 a.m. to noon through April 5. SUSSEX COUNTY Route 35 North/South – Motorists should expect single mobile lane closures on Route 35 from Route 622 North to Route 626 South for pavement marking operations, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through April 19. CHINCOTEAGUE ISLAND/ACCOMAC Route 175 East/West –Motorists should expect the causeway at the west end of the Black Narrows Bridge to be open to alternating one-way traffic controlled by a traffic light through the end of April. Motorists should also expect periodic lane closures throughout the duration of the project, Monday through Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. |
