Arrest in New Year's Melee

A shooting on New Year's Eve near Norge Hall has resulted in the arrest of a local man.

James City County Police arrested 19-year-old Randy T. Palmer this week on two felony charges, for discharging a firearm within 300 feet of an occupied dwelling and near a school. The hall on Richmond Road is across the street from Norge Elementary.

Maj. Steve Rubino said police responded to calls of a fight involving gunfire on New Year's Eve. During their investigation they found a .22-caliber handgun in a Dumpster. Police used gunshot residue testing on the hands of several witnesses, and results that came back this week indicated Palmer had recently fired a weapon, Rubino said.

No one was hurt in the fight.
