VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: April 4-10By WYDaily Staff Sunday, April 04, 2010 In an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events. Other closures may occur which do not appear on this report.For current traffic and travel information, visit the VDOT Web site, call 511, call the TrafficLine at 757-361-3016 or listen to 610AM. Remember that several traffic cameras are out of order (read the story here), including those on Interstate 64 as it passes through the Historic Triangle. JAMES RIVER BRIDGE Route 17 South – Motorists should expect single left lane closures from River Street to Kings Cove Way for traffic signal and camera repairs, Tuesday, April 6, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Route 17 South – Motorists should expect single right lane closures from River Street to Kings Cove Way for traffic signal repairs, Wednesday, April 7, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Route 17 North – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the bridge abutment to the River Road intersection and from Warwick Boulevard to the River Road intersection for sign installation, Tuesday, April 6, through Friday, April 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Route 17 North/South – Motorists should expect single lane closures over the James River Bridge for bridge deck repairs, Monday, April 6, through Friday, April 9, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. HAMPTON I-64 East – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Hampton Roads Center Parkway (Exit 261) to Mallory Street (Exit 268) for guardrail replacement Tuesday, April 6, through Friday, April 2, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. HAMPTON/NEWPORT NEWS I-664 South – Motorists should expect single lane closures from Warwick Boulevard (Exit 5) to the I-64 Interchange (Exit 1) for shoulder edge striping, Tuesday, April 6 through Thursday, April 8, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-664 North – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from Warwick Boulevard (Exit 5) to the I-64 Interchange (Exit 1) for concrete grinding operations, Monday, April 5, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and Tuesday, April 6, through Friday, April 9, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. A detour may be established at 34th Street and Huntington. Motorists will take Jefferson Avenue to the Chestnut Avenue on-ramp to I-664. NEWPORT NEWS Warwick Boulevard East/West Route 60 – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures for construction activities on Warwick Boulevard from Nettles Drive to J. Clyde Morris Blvd. Sunday through Saturday. Anticipate overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on both east and west bound lanes. Daytime lane closures should be expected daily from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on east and west bound lanes. These lane closures will be in effect through project completion in May. Motorists should expect daytime and night-time lane closures on Warwick Boulevard, both east and west bound for the duration of the project in order to complete paving operations, signalization and lighting installation, landscaping, & other work necessary to compete the project. Business entrances could be impacted for short periods while paving machines move past the entrances. MONITOR-MERRIMAC MEMORIAL BRIDGE-TUNNEL I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Terminal Avenue (Exit 7) to the Suffolk Shore for sweeping operations, Wednesday, April 7, and Thursday, April 8, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Monday, April 5 through Friday, April 9, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011. Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations. For more project information, please visit the VDOT Web site. MIDTOWN TUNNEL Route 58 East/West – Motorists should expect a single lane closure in the Midtown Tunnel for tunnel lighting repair and drain cleaning operations, Monday, April 5, and Tuesday, April 6, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. DOWNTOWN TUNNEL I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel lighting repair and drain cleaning operations, Wednesday, April 7, and Thursday, April 8, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. DOWNTOWN TUNNEL I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures through the Downtown Tunnel, over the Berkley Bridge and at I-464 on and off ramps, for sweeping operations Tuesday, April 6, through Friday, April 9, from midnight to 5 a.m. NORFOLK I-564 East/West Runway Tunnel – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures for tunnel maintenance, Monday, April 5, and Tuesday, April 6, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Hampton Boulevard Grading Project Motorists should expect multiple lane closures, both north and south bound on Hampton Boulevard between “B” Avenue and Rogers Avenue for utility operations, Monday, April 5, through Thursday, April 8, daily from 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., nightly from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. and Friday, April 2 at 7 p.m. through Saturday, April 3, at 6 p.m. Portions of Greenbrier Avenue will be closed to all traffic through August 2010. A detour has been established. Motorists should be alert to detour signs and new traffic patterns in the area. Virginia Beach Boulevard East/West – Motorists should expect alternating single lane closures between Military Highway and Jett Street for concrete curbing and sidewalk construction from Monday, April 5, through Saturday, April 10, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. PORTSMOUTH I-264 West – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from the Downtown Tunnel exit to the Bowers Hill Interchange for paving operations, Monday, April 5, through Friday, April 9, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. GILMERTON BRIDGE Route 13 North/South – The Gilmerton Bridge will close to all vehicular traffic from Bainbridge Boulevard to Shell Road for construction activities, Saturday, April 10 at 7 a.m. through Sunday, April 11, at 5 p.m. Motorists are encouraged to find an alternate route, such as the High Rise Bridge during the closure. When the bridge reopens on Sunday, motorists should be alert to a new traffic pattern. CHESAPEAKE I-664 South – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Military Highway for overhead sign maintenance, Wednesday, April 7, and Thursday, April 8, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. For motorist safety, intermittent traffic stoppages will be necessary for up to 15 minutes. I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Tuesday, April 6, through Friday, April 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work. Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue through August 2011. Mt. Pleasant Road South/Fentress Airfield Road West – Motorists should expect a single lane closure on Mt. Pleasant Road and Fentress Airfield Road to Blackwater Road for utility relocation operations, Monday, April 5, through Friday, April 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from George Washington Highway/Route 17 (Exit 296) to Battlefield Boulevard (Exit 290) for roadway and guardrail maintenance, Monday, April 5, through Friday, April 9, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. VIRGINIA BEACH Lynnhaven Parkway North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on Lynnhaven Parkway between Holland Road and Lishelle Place for crosswalk and paving operations, Monday, April 5, through Friday, April 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Witchduck Road North/South –Motorists should expect single lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road to North Amberly for drain pipe installation, Monday, April 5, through Friday, April 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-264 West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Independence Boulevard at Mount Trashmore for overhead sign repair, Thursday, April 8, and Friday, April 9, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Waterside Drive (Exit 2) to Laskin Road (Exit 20) for pothole repair and roadway maintenance Tuesday, April 6, through Friday, April 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ISLE OF WIGHT Route 258 South – Motorists should expect alternating right and left lane closures on Route 258 South, between Route 10 and Route 17, including the deceleration ramp from Route 17 South to Route 258 South on Brewer’s Neck Boulevard for paving operations, Tuesday, April 6, through Friday, April 9, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. SUSSEX COUNTY Route 35 North/South – Motorists should expect single mobile lane closures on Route 35 from Route 622 North to Route 626 South for pavement marking operations, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through April 19. CHINCOTEAGUE ISLAND/ACCOMAC Route 175 East/West – The new bridge is open to two way traffic as of Thursday, April 1. Motorist may experience periodic lane closures on the new bridge through the month of April. |
