VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: April 25-May 1

vdotlogoIn an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events. Other closures may occur which do not appear on this report.

SPECIAL NOTICE BERKLEY BRIDGE CLOSURE:
I-264 West Berkley Bridge will be closed to all vehicular traffic beginning Friday, April 23, at 8 p.m. through Monday, April 26, at 5 a.m. and Friday, April 30 at 8 p.m. through Monday, May 2, at 5 a.m. Motorists should use the Midtown Tunnel, the Campostella Bridge or I-464 as alternate routes.

JAMES RIVER BRIDGE
Route 17 South – Motorists should expect single mobile lane closures from River Street to Kings Cove Way for traffic signal, camera and flasher lights maintenance, Monday, April 26, and Wednesday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Route 17 North/South – Motorists should expect single lane closures over the James River Bridge for bridge deck repairs, Sunday, April 25, through Friday, April 30, from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.

HAMPTON

LaSalle Avenue South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures on LaSalle Avenue near Armistead Avenue for overhead sign repair, Wednesday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-664 North – Motorists should expect single lane closures, including off ramps, at Chestnut Street (Exit 4) for pavement repair, Thursday, April 29, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 East – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Hampton Roads Center Parkway (Exit 261) to Mallory Street (Exit 268) for guardrail replacement Monday, April 26, through Friday, April 30, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

NEWPORT NEWS
I-664 South – Motorists should expect single lane closures, including off ramp closures, at Aberdeen Road (Exit 4) for pavement repairs, Monday, April 26, through Thursday, April 29, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Warwick Boulevard East/West
Route 60 – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures for construction activities on Warwick Boulevard from Nettles Drive to J. Clyde Morris Blvd. Sunday through Saturday. Anticipate overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on both east and west bound lanes. Daytime lane closures should be expected daily from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on east and west bound lanes. These lane closures will be in effect through project completion in June 2010 - note the later anticipated completion date.

Motorists should expect daytime and night time lane closures on Warwick Boulevard, both east and west bound for the duration of the project in order to complete paving operations, signalization and lighting installation, landscaping, & other work necessary to compete the project. Business entrances could be impacted for short periods while paving machines move past the entrances.

MONITOR-MERRIMAC MEMORIAL BRIDGE-TUNNEL
I-664 NORTH/SOUTH – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures in the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel for tunnel maintenance activities, Monday, April 26, through Wednesday, April 28, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL

I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday, April 25 through Thursday, April 29, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011.

Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664.  Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations.

DOWNTOWN TUNNEL

I-264 East – Motorists should expect single lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for drain cleaning, Monday, April 26, through Thursday, April 29, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-464 East – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures for at the I-264 Interchange at the Downtown Tunnel for ramp sweeping operations, Tuesday, April 27, from midnight to 5 a.m.

MIDTOWN TUNNEL
Route 58 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures in the Midtown Tunnel for tunnel lighting and drain cleaning operations, Monday, April 26, through Thursday, April 29, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

HIGH OCCUPANCY VEHICLE (HOV) REVERSIBLE ROADWAY

I-64 East/West – The High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Reversible Roadway will be closed for three consecutive weekends for repaving beginning Friday, April 30. Motorists will not have access to the HOV Reversible Roadway beginning Friday, April 30 at 8 p.m. through Monday, May 3, at 5 a.m.

NORFOLK
Tidewater Drive South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures on Tidewater Drive at Marvin Avenue for overhead sign repair, Wednesday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Hampton Boulevard Grading Project
Motorists should expect multiple lane closures, both north and south bound on Hampton Boulevard between “B” Avenue and Rogers Avenue for utility operations, Monday, April 26, through Friday, April 30, daily from 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., nightly from Monday, April 26, through Thursday, April 29, from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Portions of Greenbrier Avenue will be closed to all traffic through August 2010. A detour has been established. Motorists should be alert to detour signs and new traffic patterns in the area.

Virginia Beach Boulevard East/West – Motorists should expect alternating single lane closures between Military Highway and Jett Street for concrete curbing and sidewalk construction from Monday, April 26, through Saturday, May 1, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

PORTSMOUTH

I-264 East – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures past Greenwood Avenue (Exit 2) for overhead sign repair, Wednesday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures from DeMoines Avenue to the Bowers Hill Interchange for pavement line marking, Monday, April 26, through Friday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

GILMERTON BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECT

Route 13 North/South – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures and daytime traffic shifts for bridge construction activities, Sunday, April 25, through Saturday, May 1, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

CHESAPEAKE/NORFOLK

I-464 South – Motorists should expect single mobile lane closures between the Military Highway overpass and Main Street (Exit 5) for pavement marking operations, Monday, April 26, through Friday, April 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

CHESAPEAKE
I-464 North – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the I-64 Interchange for slope repair, Monday, April 26, and Tuesday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-664 North – Motorists should expect single lane closures near Portsmouth Boulevard (Exit 11) for pavement repairs, Monday, April 26, and Tuesday, April 27, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-664 South – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the I-264 Interchange (Exit 15) for slope repairs, Wednesday, April 28 and Thursday, April 29, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work. Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue through August 2011.

Mt. Pleasant Road South/Fentress Airfield Road West – Motorists should expect a single lane closure on Mt. Pleasant Road and Fentress Airfield Road to Blackwater Road for utility relocation operations, Monday, April 26, through Friday, April 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Mt. Pleasant Road South/Fall Ridge Lane West – Motorists should expect a single lane closure on Mt. Pleasant Road and Fall Ridge Lane for utility relocation operations, Monday, April 26, through Friday, April 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-64 East – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures between Military Highway and George Washington Highway/Route 17 (Exit 296) for overhead sign repair, Wednesday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from George Washington Highway/Route 17 (Exit 296) to Battlefield Boulevard (Exit 290) for roadway and guardrail maintenance, Sunday, April 25, through Friday, April 30, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

VIRGINIA BEACH
Lynnhaven Parkway North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on Lynnhaven Parkway between Holland Road and Lishelle Place for crosswalk and paving operations, Monday, April 26, through Friday, April 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Witchduck Road North/South –Motorists should expect single lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road for drain pipe installation, Monday, April 26, through Friday, April 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Witchduck Road will be closed to all traffic on North Amberly for sewer line reconstruction.

ISLE OF WIGHT

Route 35 South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures between Route 622 North and the Route 35/Route 40 Intersection for paving operations, Monday, April 26, through Thursday, April 29, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 10 South – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures from Route 10 Business through Route 666, for paving operations Sunday, April 25, through Thursday, April 29, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 10 South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Route 10 Business to Route 666 for pavement striping, Tuesday, April 27, through Thursday, April 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 258 South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Route 609 to Route 460 for pavement striping, Friday, April 30, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

SUFFOLK

I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect single lane closures near College Drive (Exit 8) for pavement repairs, Wednesday, April 28, and Thursday, April 29, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

CHINCOTEAGUE ISLAND/ACCOMAC
Route 175 East/West – The new bridge is open to two-way traffic. Motorist may experience periodic lane closures on the new bridge through the month of April.
