VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: May 2-8

vdotlogoIn an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events. Other closures may occur which do not appear on this report.

SPECIAL NOTICE BERKLEY BRIDGE CLOSURE: I-264 West Berkley Bridge is closed to all vehicular traffic beginning Friday, April 30, at 8 p.m. through Monday, May 3, at 5 a.m. Motorists should use the Midtown Tunnel, the Campostella Bridge or I-464 as alternate routes.

JAMES RIVER BRIDGE
Route 17 North - Motorists should expect single lane closures over the James River Bridge for bridge deck repairs, Sunday, May 2, through Friday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 17 South - Motorists should expect single lane closures over the James River Bridge for bridge deck repairs, Monday, May 3, through Friday, May 7, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.

HAMPTON
I-64 East – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Hampton Roads Center Parkway (Exit 261) to Mallory Street (Exit 268) for guardrail replacement Monday, May 3, through Friday, May 7, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

NEWPORT NEWS
I-664 North – Motorists should expect single lane closures at Powhatan Parkway (Exit 2) for pavement repair, Monday, May 3, through Wednesday, May 5, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-664 South – Motorists should expect single lane closures, at Chestnut Street (Exit 4) for ramp pavement repairs, Sunday, May 2, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-664 South – Motorists should expect single lane closures, at Powhatan Parkway (Exit 2) for pavement repairs, Thursday, May 6, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures at the J. Clyde Morris Boulevard/Route 17 overpasses (Exit 258) for bridge inspections, Thursday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures at the Harperville Road underpasses for bridge inspections, Thursday, May 6, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Warwick Boulevard East/West
Route 60 – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures for construction activities on Warwick Boulevard from Nettles Drive to J. Clyde Morris Blvd. Sunday through Saturday. Anticipate overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on both east and west bound lanes. Daytime lane closures should be expected daily from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on east and west bound lanes. These lane closures will be in effect through project completion in June 2010.

Motorists should expect daytime and nighttime lane closures on Warwick Boulevard, both east and west bound for the duration of the project in order to complete paving operations, signalization and lighting installation, landscaping, and other work necessary to complete the project.  Business entrances could be affected for short periods while paving machines move past the entrances.

NEWPORT NEWS/CHESAPEAKE

I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures for roadway maintenance on I-664 North and South from Chesapeake to Newport News, Monday, May 3, through Thursday, May 6, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

MONITOR-MERRIMAC MEMORIAL BRIDGE-TUNNEL
I-664 North – Motorists should expect shoulder closures on the I-664 MMMBT near the small boat channel for fender system repair, Monday, May 3, through Thursday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL
I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday, May 2 through Thursday, May 7, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011.

Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664.  Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures for tunnel drain cleaning operations Sunday, May 2, Monday, May 3 and Wednesday, May 5, from midnight to 5 a.m.

DOWNTOWN TUNNEL

I-264 East – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel sweeping and roadway maintenance, Tuesday, May 4, from midnight to 5 a.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel sweeping and roadway maintenance, Thursday, May 6, from midnight to 5 a.m.

HIGH OCCUPANCY VEHICLE (HOV) REVERSIBLE ROADWAY

I-64 East/West – The HOV Reversible Roadway will be closed for three consecutive weekends for repaving beginning Friday, April 30. Motorists will not have access to the HOV Reversible Roadway beginning Friday, April 30 at 8 p.m. through Monday, May 3, at 5 a.m. and Friday, May 7, at 8 p.m. to Monday, May 10, at 4:30 a.m.

NORFOLK
Hampton Boulevard Grading Project
Motorists should expect multiple lane closures, both north and south bound on Hampton Boulevard between “B” Avenue and Rogers Avenue for utility operations, Monday, May 3, through Friday, May 7, daily from 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., nightly from Monday, May 3, through Friday, May 7, from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Portions of Greenbrier Avenue will be closed to all traffic through August 2010. A detour has been established. Motorists should be alert to detour signs and new traffic patterns in the area.

Virginia Beach Boulevard East/West – Motorists should expect alternating single lane closures between Military Highway and Jett Street for concrete curbing and sidewalk construction from Monday, May 3, through Saturday, May 8, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

I-64 West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the I-564 Interchange (Exit 276) for guard rail repairs, Monday, May 3, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

PORTSMOUTH
I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures at the I-264 Ramps from Portsmouth Boulevard (Exit 4) and at the Portsmouth Boulevard overpasses for underside bridge inspection, Monday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures at Frederick Boulevard (Exit 5) and the southbound ramp for underside bridge inspection, Monday, May 3, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures from Des Moines Avenue (Exit 6) to the Bowers Hill Interchange (Exit 1) for temporary line marking prior to milling and paving operations, Monday, May 3, though Friday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 West– Motorists should expect single lane closures from Frederick Boulevard (Exit 5) to the Bowers Hill Interchange (Exit 1) for paving operations, Sunday, May 2, through Tuesday, May 4, from 7 p.m. to 5 am.

I-264 East– Motorists should expect single lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange (Exit 1) to Frederick Boulevard (Exit 5) for paving operations, Wednesday, May 5, through Friday, May 7, from 7 p.m. to 5 am.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect single lane closures from the Downtown Tunnel to Victory Boulevard (Exit 3) for sweeping and roadway maintenance, Monday, May 3, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

CHESAPEAKE
I-664 North – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the I-64 Interchange (Exit 15B) for bridge painting, Sunday, May 2, through Thursday, May 6, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., and Monday, May 3, through Thursday, May 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work. Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue through August 2011.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from George Washington Highway/Route 17 (Exit 296) to Battlefield Boulevard (Exit 290) for roadway and guardrail maintenance, Sunday, May 2, through Friday, May 7, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

I-64 East – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at Shell Road for guard rail repair, Monday, May 3, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

VIRGINIA BEACH
Lynnhaven Parkway North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on Lynnhaven Parkway between Holland Road and Lishelle Place for crosswalk and paving operations, Monday, May 3, through Friday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Witchduck Road North/South –Motorists should expect single lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road and at North Amerbly and Witchduck Road for drain pipe installation, Monday, May 3, through Friday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

ISLE OF WIGHT
Route 10 South – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures from Route 10 Business through Route 666, for paving operations Sunday, May 2, through Wednesday, May 5, from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Route 258 South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on Route 258 in Isle of Wight for paving and pavement marking, Monday, May 3, through Wednesday, May 5, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY
Route 308 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures on Route 308 for paving operations, Monday, May 3, through Wednesday, May 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 35 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Route 665 to Route 673 and Route 1324 for paving operations, Monday, May 3, through Friday, May 7, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 616 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Route 626 to Route 600 for paving operations, Monday, May 3, through Friday, May 7, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 58 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Route 35 to Route 742 for paving operations, Monday May 3, through Friday, May 7, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
