Election Day: City Voters to Choose 2 for Council

voteVoters in the City of Williamsburg will go to the polls today to choose two city council members.

Five men are running: four who grew up in the area, and one who grew up elsewhere but came to William and Mary for college and intends to make his home here. One, Bobby Braxton, is an incumbent seeking a second term. Mayor Jeanne Zeidler, whose term is also up, announced earlier this year she would not run again.

Both Sean Driscoll and Doug Pons serve on the city's planning commission. Driscoll is a banker, while Pons is a hotelier in the city. Both grew up in the city and before heading off to college graduated from Lafayette High School.

David Dafashy, a physician at the College of William and Mary health center, graduated from Bruton High, but counts himself a Williamsburg native. Scott Foster grew up in Highland County, but came to the city four years ago as a student at William and Mary.

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Residents who reside in Precinct 1 - Stryker Precinct - vote at the Williamsburg Community Building, 401 North Boundary St. Residents who reside in Precinct 2 - Berkeley Precinct - vote at Williamsburg Christian Church, 200 John Tyler Lane.
