W&M Students Alerted to 'Lewd' Suspect

Area police are looking out for a man who is reported to have confronted female William and Mary students with lewd behavior or gestures at nighttime on and near campus.

In a message to students and faculty, College of William and Mary Vice President for Administration Anna Martin described the incidents, which were first reported to campus police Wednesday night. In the Wednesday incident a male suspect exposed himself to the victim near Ukrop Way and Wake Drive. An earlier incident occurred Saturday in the CVS parking lot on Richmond Road, where a student reported that a suspect with the same description accosted her as she left the store.

"Fortunately, there were no physical injuries in either incident," Martin wrote.

Martin wrote that the suspect is described as a black male in his late 20s to early 30s, with a "round face with protruding eyes, and a gap between his front teeth." He was last seen wearing a blue ball cap on backwards, a white oversized T-shirt and jeans. An older model, dark-colored "boxy-type" car - possibly dark green, blue or black - was reported in the area.

Martin wrote that anyone who sees someone matching the suspect's description should call police immediately. William and Mary police may be reached at 757-221-4596; the Crime Line number is 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.

She also cautioned students against walking alone whenever possible, and especially at night. When on campus, students may call the Campus Escort service at 1-3293.

i-care, I'm not really sure what you're referring to...how will "this" (assuming you're talking about the two incidents) affect the relationship between town and campus?

Some of us, who are both local and alum, have been planning and working towards a common goal of bringing both our TOWN and CAMPUS a bit closer together in understanding and respect for each other. That's a fact that has been deteriorating for decades, under the surface! And now this.... The rift will continue to grow, I fear. We MUST bring it out into the open, respectfully, and talk and resolve!
