Williamsburg Police have released photos of a man they consider a suspect in reports of lewd behavior in the 1200 block of Richmond Road on April 26.

City police, along with College of William and Mary police, are investigating several complaints about a man who has made inappropriate physical contact with and exposed himself to women in this area over the past two weeks or so.

The suspect has been described as a black male, in his 30s or 40s, about 5'9" to 6' tall and with a medium build. The photos depict a man wearing dark pants with a white T-shirt and a ball cap worn backwards. He's entering and leaving the Bloom's grocery store in the city.

In a message sent to students and faculty this week, College of William and Mary Vice President for Administration Anna Martin described the incidents, which were first reported to campus police Wednesday night. In the Wednesday incident a male suspect exposed himself to the victim near Ukrop Way and Wake Drive. An earlier incident occurred Saturday in the CVS parking lot on Richmond Road, where a student reported that a suspect with the same description accosted her as she left the store.

No one was injured in any of the encounters, but Martin encouraged women to use the college's Campus Escort service and to avoid walking alone.

Anyone who sees someone matching the suspect's description should call police immediately. William and Mary police may be reached at 757-221-4596; Williamsburg police are at 757-220-2331; and the Crime Line number is 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.

Our town and college, for decades, has had an underlying and strained problem with the rapport between townsfolk and students, really! And some of us have just begun to awake everyone that a big problem exists and how to work, together, to resolve some of the important issues. And we now have this perp setting us back a few notches!
