VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: May 16-22By WYDaily Staff Sunday, May 16, 2010 In an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events. SPECIAL NOTICE BERKLEY BRIDGE CLOSURE: I-264 East Berkley Bridge will be closed to all vehicular traffic beginning Friday, May 14, at 8 p.m. through Monday, May 17, at 5 a.m. Motorists traveling to downtown Norfolk should use the Midtown Tunnel, the Campostella Bridge or I-464 as alternate routes. Motorists traveling to Virginia Beach should use the High Rise Bridge. JAMES RIVER BRIDGE Route 17 South - Motorists should expect single mobile lane closures over the James River Bridge south bound for lighting safety inspection, Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Route 17 North - Motorists should expect single lane closures over the James River Bridge north bound for lighting safety inspection, Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Route 17 North – Motorists should expect single, alternating lane closures on the James River Bridge for bridge repairs, Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. HAMPTON I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the Magruder Boulevard overpass (Exit 262) for bridge safety inspection, Thursday, May 20, and Friday, May 21, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect lane closures at Aberdeen Road (Exit 3) for concrete pavement repairs, Sunday, May 16, through Friday, May 21, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Warwick Boulevard East/West Route 60 – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures for construction activities on Warwick Boulevard from Nettles Drive to J. Clyde Morris Blvd. Sunday through Saturday. Anticipate overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on both east and west bound lanes. Daytime lane closures should be expected daily from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on east and west bound lanes. These lane closures will be in effect through project completion in June. Motorists should expect daytime and night time lane closures on Warwick Boulevard, both east and west bound for the duration of the project in order to complete paving operations, signalization and lighting installation, landscaping and other work necessary to compete the project. Business entrances could be affected for short periods while paving machines move past the entrances. MONITOR-MERRIMAC MEMORIAL BRIDGE-TUNNEL I-664 North – Motorists should expect shoulder closures on the I-664 MMMBT near the small boat channel for fender system repair, Monday, May 17, through Thursday, May 20, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL I-64 East – Motorists should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday, May 16 through Thursday, May 20, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011. Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations. For more project information, please visit the VDOT website. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures in the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel for fire extinguisher inspections, Thursday, May 20, from 9 to 11 p.m. HIGH OCCUPANCY VEHICLE LANES (HOV) I-64 East/West Reversible Roadway – The HOV Reversible Roadway will be closed until Monday, May 17, at 5 a.m. The roadway will be open for Monday commuters. Motorists should be alert to lane closures at the entrances and exits of the reversible roadway. MIDTOWN TUNNEL Route 58 East – Motorists should expect east bound lane closures in the Midtown Tunnel for tunnel lighting and drainage maintenance, Monday, May 17, and Thursay, May 20, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Route 58 West – Motorists should expect west bound lane closures in the Midtown Tunnel for tunnel lighting and drainage maintenance, Tuesday, May 18, through Thursday, May 20, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. DOWNTOWN TUNNEL I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel sweeping and roadway maintenance, Tuesday, May 18, and Friday, May 21, from midnight to 5 a.m. I-264 West – Motorists should expect a single lane closure in the Downtown Tunnel for pavement marking, Monday, May 17, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. NORFOLK Hampton Boulevard Grading Project Motorists should expect multiple lane closures, both north and south bound on Hampton Boulevard between “B” Avenue and Rogers Avenue to 90th Street for utility operations, Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21, daily from 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., nightly from Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21, from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. Portions of Greenbrier Avenue will be closed to all traffic through August 2010. A detour has been established. Motorists should be alert to detour signs and new traffic patterns in the area. I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the Kempsville Road overpass for bridge safety inspections, Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the Newtown Road overpass for bridge safety inspections, Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-564 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures for bridge inspection, Monday, May 17, and Tuesday, May 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. PORTSMOUTH I-264 East – Motorists should expect single lane closures at Portsmouth Boulevard (Exit 4) for bridge deck repairs, Monday, May 17, through Wednesday, May 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should also expect closures on Portsmouth Boulevard. I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures under the Effingham Street (Exit 7) overpass for bridge safety inspections, Tuesday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures under the Victory Boulevard (Exit 3) overpass for bridge safety inspections, Monday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. CHESAPEAKE/NORFOLK I-464 South – Motorists should expect single lane closures between the Military Highway Overpass and Main Street (Exit 5) for paving operations, Sunday, May 16, through Thursday, May 20, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. CHESAPEAKE I-664 North – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the I-64 Interchange (Exit 15) for guard rail repairs, Tuesday, May 18, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-664 North – Motorists should expect lane closures from Pughsville Road (Exit 10) to the I-64 Interchange (Exit 15) for roadway maintenance, Sunday, May 16, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-664 South – Motorists should expect lane closures from the I-64 Interchange (Exit 15) to Pughsville Road (Exit 10) for roadway maintenance, Friday, May 21, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work. Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue through August 2011. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from I-264 Interchange (Exit 299) to Battlefield Boulevard (Exit 290) for lane and shoulder paving operations, Sunday, May 16, through Friday, May 21, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. I-64 East – Motorists should expect single, mobile lane closures between the I-464 Interchange and Greenbrier parkway (Exit 289) for lighting safety inspection, Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mt. Pleasant Road South/Fentress Airfield Road West – Motorists should expect a single lane closure on Mt. Pleasant Road and Fall Ride Lane for utility relocation operations, Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. VIRGINIA BEACH Witchduck Road North/South –Motorists should expect single lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road and at North Amerbly and Witchduck Road for drain pipe installation, Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the Witchduck Road overpass for bridge safety inspections, Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at Baxter Road and the Independence Boulevard overpass for bridge safety inspections, Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the London Bridge Road overpass for bridge safety inspections, Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the Laskin Road and Virginia Beach Boulevard overpass for bridge safety inspections, Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ISLE OF WIGHT Route 258 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Route 609 to Route 460 for paving operations, Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. GREENVILLE COUNTY Route 611 – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from Emporia to Brunswick County, for paving operations and lane striping, Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Route 301 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Emporia to the I-95 Interchange ramp, Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY Route 58 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Route 35 to Courtland for paving operations and lane striping, Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Route 35 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from Route 58 to Route 616 for paving operations and lane striping, Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Route 659 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Route 612 to Route 652 for paving operations, Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Route 308 – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures on Route 58 for paving operations and lane striping, Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Route 35 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Route 665 to Route 673 and Route 1324 for paving operations, Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Route 616 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Route 626 to Route 600 for paving operations, Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Route 58 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Route 35 for paving operations, Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Route 58 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Route 35 to Route 742 for roadway striping operations, Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. |
