College of William and Mary student Samantha Casey was named the second runner-up at the 2010 Miss USA pageant Sunday.

Casey placed third overall out of the field of 51 contestants at the pageant, held at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

The Jeffersonton, Va. native had earlier won the Miss Virginia USA in November 2009. Additionally, Casey won the 2006 Miss Teen Virginia pageant, going on to place as the third runner-up in the Miss Teen USA pageant.

To prepare for the Miss Virginia pageant, Casey took the Fall 2009 semester off from the College. After winning a place in the Miss USA pageant, she also took off the Spring 2010 semester.

During her time at the College, Casey was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and Love146, an organization that seeks to prevent child sex-trafficking.

With the controversy over the Miss USA show - I don't call it a pageant because it has been politicized by Trump - Casey may eventually end up as the Miss USA. The "winner" if she can be called a winner has been tainted by a scandal similar to the Prejean scandal of the previous year. Miss Oklahoma, first runner-up, certainly has a valid complaint because she was almost certainly set-up to fail. The Miss USA show continues to lose viewers and advertisers because it is a dishonest politically correct event, and Americans inherently dislike dishonesty in what is supposed to be a fair and open contest.

In any event, Samantha Casey is a beautiful young woman who reflects the very best in a country that values physical beauty as well as talent and intellect.

Can we just go on and vote now for her to be next year's homecoming queen so that we can avoid all the confusion and embarrassment?
