Plan in Works to Protect Area's Creeks

James City County will be hosting a meeting Thursday evening to discuss a comprehensive plan on how to clean up Mill Creek, which has been listed as impaired since 2006.

The creek is a popular recreation spot for people, and needs a plan to keep bacteria levels and other pollutants to a minimum. The county is hoping people who live near the waterway or enjoy using it will help craft a plan to clean the creek, which should be finished over the next few months.

Last week, the county hosted a meeting to share a report on high levels of fecal bacteria in Mill Creek and Powhatan Creek; Thursday’s meeting will be broader in nature and will look at the many various ways the county can help protect the area. Read a previous story about the creek here.

The final watershed management plan for the creek will be reviewed by stakeholders and presented to the board of supervisors sometime in the summer.

Great idea! Plans should be formed to help fix this natural resource.
