In an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events. Other closures may occur which do not appear on this report.

SPECIAL NOTICE ABOUT THE BERKLEY BRIDGE CLOSURE: I-264 East Berkley Bridge will be closed to all vehicular traffic beginning Friday, June 4, at 8 p.m. through Monday, June 7, at 5 a.m. Motorists traveling to downtown Norfolk should use the Midtown Tunnel, the Campostella Bridge or I-464 as alternate routes. Motorists traveling to Virginia Beach should use the High Rise Bridge.
JAMES RIVER BRIDGERoute 17 North/South - Motorists should expect alternating lane closures over the James River Bridge for light pole maintenance, Tuesday, June 1, through Friday, June 4, southbound from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., northbound from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Route 17 North – Motorists should expect single, alternating lane closures on the James River Bridge for bridge repairs, Wednesday, June 2, through Friday, June 4, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Route 17 South – Motorists should expect single, alternating lane closures on the James River Bridge for bridge repairs, Wednesday, June 2, through Friday, June 4, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
HAMPTONI-664 North/South – As part of a long-term paving project, motorists should expect lane and shoulder closures, among them:
I-664 North – Motorists should expect left shoulder closures at the Aberdeen Road Bridge for median barrier construction through June 24 from noon to midnight.
I-664 South – Motorists should expect a left shoulder and left lane closure at the Aberdeen Road Bridge for median barrier construction through June 24 from noon to midnight.
Additional lane closures may be necessary in this area from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
I-664 North – Motorists should expect ramp closures at the Chestnut Avenue (Exit 4) on-ramp for concrete pavement repairs, Tuesday, June 1, through Friday, June 3, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists should be alert for detours in the area.
NEWPORT NEWSWarwick Boulevard East/West
Route 60 – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures for construction activities on Warwick Boulevard from Nettles Drive to J. Clyde Morris Blvd. Sunday through Saturday. Anticipate overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on both east and west bound lanes. Daytime lane closures should be expected daily from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on east and west bound lanes. These lane closures will be in effect through project completion in June 2010.
MONITOR-MERRIMAC MEMORIAL BRIDGE-TUNNELI-664 North – Motorists should expect shoulder closures on the I-664 MMMBT near the small boat channel for fender system repair, Wednesday, June 2, through Friday, June 4, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNELI-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Tuesday, June 1 through Thursday, June 3, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011.
Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations.

DOWNTOWN TUNNEL
I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel sweeping and roadway maintenance, Friday, June 4, from midnight to 5 a.m.
NORFOLK
I-264 West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Brambleton Avenue (Exit 11) for overhead sign repairs, Wednesday, June 2, and Thursday, June 3, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.
Newtown Road North/South – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the I-264 Overpass for bridge safety inspections, Tuesday, June 1, from noon to 3 p.m. and Wednesday, June 2, through Friday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Kempsville Road North/South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the I-264 Overpass for bridge safety inspections, Tuesday, June 1, from noon to 3 p.m. and Wednesday, June 2, through Friday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Hampton Boulevard Grading Project
Motorists should expect multiple lane closures, both north and south bound on Hampton Boulevard between “B” Avenue and Rogers Avenue to 90th Street for utility operations, Tuesday, June 1, through Thursday, June 3, daily from 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., nightly from Tuesday, June 1, through Thursday, June 3, from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Portions of Greenbrier Avenue will be closed to all traffic through August 2010. A detour has been established. Motorists should be alert to detour signs and new traffic patterns in the area.
Motorists should expect alternating northbound lane closures at Mapleshade Drive from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. for utility operations.
I-464 North/South – Motorists should expect lane closures at the I-64 Interchange for roadway maintenance and slope repairs, Tuesday, June 1, from noon to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, June 2, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
I-564 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the Runway Tunnel for drain cleaning and roadway maintenance, Tuesday, June 1, through Thursday, June 3, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
PORTSMOUTH
I-264 West – Motorists should expect lane and ramp closures from Frederick Boulevard (Exit 5) to the I-664/I-64 Interchange (Exit 1) for maintenance activities, Tuesday, June 1, and Wednesday, June 2, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
I-264 East – Motorists should expect lane and ramp closures from the I-664/I-64 Interchange (Exit 1) to Frederick Boulevard (Exit 5) for maintenance activities, Tuesday, June 1, and Wednesday, June 2, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
VIRGINIA BEACH
Witchduck Road North/South –Motorists should expect single lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road and at North Amerbly and Witchduck Road for drain pipe installation, Tuesday, June 1, through Friday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
I-64 East – Motorists should expect lane and shoulder closures before Indian River Road (Exit 286) for overhead sign installation, Wednesday, June 2, through Friday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
CHESAPEAKE/NORFOLK
I-464 South – Motorists should expect single lane closures between the Military Highway Overpass and Main Street (Exit 5) for paving operations, Tuesday, June 1, through Thursday, June 3, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
CHESAPEAKE
I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at Route 58 (Exit 13) for roadway maintenance, Tuesday, June 1, and Wednesday, June 2, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work. Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue through August 2011.
I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from I-264 Interchange (Exit 299) to Battlefield Boulevard (Exit 290) for lane and shoulder paving operations, Tuesday, June 1, through Friday, June 4, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
SUFFOLK
I-664 North – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures on I-664 at Pughsville Road (Exit 10) for overhead sign repairs, Thursday, June 3, and Friday, June 4, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.
I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the Route 164 Interchange for roadway maintenance, Thursday, June 3, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY
Route 58 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Route 35 to Route 742 for paving operations, Tuesday, June 1, through Friday, June 4, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Route 616 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Route 626 to Route 600 for paving operations, Tuesday, June 1, through Friday, June 4, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Route 35 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Route 665 to Route 673 including Route 1324 for paving operations, Tuesday, June 1, through Friday, June 4, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
GREENVILLE COUNTY
Route 58 North/South – Motorists should expect lane closures from Emporia to Route 611, for paving operations and lane striping, Wednesday, June 2, and Thursday, June 3, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday, June 4, from 7 a.m. to noon.
