W'burg Financial Adviser Struck, Killed on J. Clyde MorrisBy WYDaily Staff Monday, May 31, 2010 A Williamsburg man was struck and killed Saturday night while attempting to cross J. Clyde Morris Boulevard in Newport News.Newport News police said that shortly after 9 p.m. Stephen James Shonka, a 34-year-old financial adviser, was trying to cross the busy road at Diligence Drive, just south of the Interstate 64 overpass. He was headed southbound across J. Clyde when he was struck by an eastbound 2004 Acura driven by a 30-year-old Newport News man. Police said the Acura's driver had a green light when the accident occurred. Newport News police said Shonka sustained serious injuries and was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 11 p.m. Police said also that Shonka's blood alcohol level appeared to be a factor in the accident. The Acura's driver was not injured, but his passenger, a Hampton woman, was treated for minor cuts and lacerations caused by flying glass. |
