VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: June 13-19

vdotlogoIn an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. As always, the closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events; other closures may occur that are not in the forecast.

SPECIAL NOTICE - HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE TUNNEL TIDE GATE TESTING: VDOT will conduct routine tide gate testing at the HRBT on Sunday, June 13, from 5 to 6 a.m. Tide gates are tested every six months. Motorists traveling on both I-64 east and west bound through the HRBT can expect traffic stops of up to 30 minutes as each gate is tested.

COLEMAN BRIDGE

Route 17 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating shoulder closures on the Coleman Bridge for communication system repairs, Wednesday, June 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

JAMES RIVER BRIDGE

Route 17 North – Motorists should expect single, alternating lane closures on the James River Bridge for bridge repairs and pavement marking, Monday, June 14, through Friday, June 18, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 17 South – Motorists should expect single, alternating lane closures on the James River Bridge for bridge repairs and pavement marking, Monday, June 14 through Friday, June 18, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.

HAMPTON

I-664 North/South – As part of a long-term paving project, motorists should expect lane and shoulder closures:

I-664 North – Motorists should expect left shoulder closures at the Aberdeen Road Bridge for median barrier construction through June 24.

I-664 South – Motorists should expect a left shoulder and left lane closure at the Aberdeen Road Bridge for median barrier construction through June 24.

Additional lane closures may be necessary in this area from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-64 East – Motorists should expect single lane closures from the I-664 Interchange (Exit 264) to Armistead/LaSalle Avenue (Exit 265) for paving operations, Sunday, June 13, through Friday, June 18, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

NEWPORT NEWS

Warwick Boulevard East/West
Route 60 – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures for construction activities on Warwick Boulevard from Nettles Drive to J. Clyde Morris Blvd. Sunday through Saturday. Anticipate overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6a.m. on both east and west bound lanes. Daytime lane closures should be expected daily from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on east and west bound lanes. These lane closures will be in affect through project completion in June 2010.

Motorists should expect daytime and night-time lane closures on Warwick Boulevard, both east and west bound for the duration of the project in order to complete paving operations, signalization and lighting installation, landscaping, & other work necessary to compete the project. Business entrances could be impacted for short periods while paving machines move past the entrances.

HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL
I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday, June13, through Thursday, June 17, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011.

Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single lane closures for tunnel washing, Monday, June 14, through Thursday, June 17, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

MIDTOWN TUNNEL
Route 58 East/West – Motorists should expect single lane closures for lighting and drainage maintenance, Sunday, June 13, through Wednesday, June 16, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

DOWNTOWN TUNNEL
I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel sweeping and roadway maintenance, Tuesday, June 15 and Friday, June 18, from midnight to 5 a.m.

NORFOLK

I-64 East/West – High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Reversible Roadway - The HOV Reversible Roadway will be closed for pavement marking and shoulder pavement repairs, Monday, June 14, through Thursday, June 17, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East/West Berkley Bridge – Motorists should expect a single lane closure, both east and west bound, for bridge safety inspections, Monday, June 14, through Wednesday, June 16, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at Ballentine Boulevard (Exit 12) for drain cleaning and deck sweeping, Tuesday, June 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Hampton Boulevard Grading Project

Motorists should expect multiple lane closures, both north and south bound on Hampton Boulevard between “B” Avenue and Rogers Avenue to 90th Street for utility operations, Monday, June 14, through Thursday, June 17, daily from 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., nightly from Monday, June 14, through Thursday, June 17, from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Tuesday, June 15, from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. motorists may experience multiple lane closures as waterlines are flushed and tested south bound on Hampton Boulevard between B Avenue and Rogers Avenue.

Portions of Greenbrier Avenue will be closed to all traffic through August 2010. A detour has been established. Motorists should be alert to detour signs and new traffic patterns in the area.

Motorists should expect alternating northbound lane closures at Mapleshade Drive from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. for utility operations.

PORTSMOUTH

I-264 East – Motorists should expect lane closures at the Portsmouth Boulevard underpass for deck repair, Tuesday, June 15, through Thursday, June 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

VIRGINIA BEACH
Witchduck Road North/South – Motorists should expect single lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road and at North Amerbly and Witchduck Road for drain pipe installation, Monday, June 14, through Friday, June 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

CHESAPEAKE/NORFOLK

I-464 South – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures between the Military Highway Overpass and City Hall Avenue/St. Paul’s Boulevard (Exit 5) for paving and striping operations, Sunday, June 13, through Thursday, June 17, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

CHESAPEAKE/PORTSMOUTH

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the Bower’s Hill Interchange (Exit 1) to Des Moines Avenue (Exit 6) for roadway repairs, Sunday, June 13 and Monday, June 14, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

CHESAPEAKE
I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures between the I-264 Interchange (Exit 284) and Indian River Road (Exit 268) for drain cleaning operations, Monday, June 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work. Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue through August 2011.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the Route 190/Dominion Boulevard (Exit 292) to the I-264 Interchange (Exit 299) for roadway repairs, Wednesday, June 16, and Thursday, June 17, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists should also expect off- and on-ramp lane closures.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from I-264 Interchange (Exit 299) to Battlefield Boulevard (Exit 290) for lane and shoulder paving operations, Monday, June 14, through Friday, June 18, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Mt. Pleasant Road South/Fentress Airfield Road West – Motorists should expect a single lane closure at the Mt. Pleasant Road/Fentress Road intersection and on Fentress Road to Blackwater Road for utility relocation operations, Monday, June 14, through Friday, June 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Motorists should be alert for flagging operations.

SMITHFIELD

Route 10 East/West – Motorists should expect lane closures from Route 258 to Route 10 Business for paving operations and marking, Monday, June 14, through Friday, June 18, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

SURRY

Route 10 East/West – Motorists should expect lane closures from Route 618 to Route 31 Business for paving operations and marking, Monday, June 14, through Friday, June 18, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 10 East/West – Motorists should expect lane closures between Route 626 and Route 1001 for paving operations, Monday, June 14, through Friday, June 18, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY

Route 58 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Route 35 to Courtland for paving operations, Monday, June 14, through Friday, June 18, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 58 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Route 35 to Route 742 for roadway striping operations, Monday, June 14, through Friday, June 18, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 616 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Route 626 to Route 600 for paving operations, Monday, June 14, through Friday, June 18, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 35 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Route 58 to Route 616 for paving operations, Monday, June 14, through Friday, June 18, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 35 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Route 665 to Route 673 and Route 1324 for paving operations, Monday, June 14, through Friday, June 18, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 308 North/South – Motorists should expect lane closures on Route 58 for paving and striping operations, Monday, June, 14 and Tuesday, June 15, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

SUSSEX COUNTY

Route 40 North/South – Motorists should expect lane closures from Route 651 to Route 1001, from Route 1001 to Route 1018, and from Route 1018 to Route 460, for paving operations, Sunday, June 13, through Thursday, June 17, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

GREENVILLE COUNTY

Route 301 North/South – Motorists should expect lane closures from Emporia to the I-95 Interchange for paving operations, Monday, June 14, through Friday, June 18, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 611 North/South – Motorists should expect lane closures from Emporia to the Brunswick County line for paving operations, Monday, June 14, through Friday, June 18, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 58 North/South – Motorists should expect lane closures from Emporia to Route 611 for paving operations, Monday, June 14, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
