Martin's Submits Plans for Monticello Gas Station

martins-brand-imageMartin’s, which recently replaced Ukrop’s in Monticello Marketplace, has submitted a conceptual plan with James City County to locate a gas station along Monticello Avenue in Windsormeade Marketplace.

The proposal is for a four- or five-island gas station to be located on a parcel at 4820 Monticello Avenue, which is close to Monticello Marketplace but still technically part of Windsormeade. The lot is zoned mixed-use.

County planning staff hasn’t yet had a chance to review the plans; once they’ve been reviewed, staff will discuss with the applicant what the next steps in the application process will be.

Martin’s grocery stores generally have gas stations associated with them. Martin's Regional Vice President Jim Scanlon told Richmond NBC affiliate channel 12 last month, "obviously part of our business model is to have fuel and we're exploring sites and expansion sites right now. And we're in a position to move forward in a good pace.”

The closest gas station along Monticello is the Shell station across from Monticello Marketplace.

And that Shell station is relatively high-priced. I have no clue what a Martin's gas station is like -- I'd love to have a Wawa or a Hess in the area. Heck it would be really good to get a Wawa store in the area. We sure don't need no more pharmacies.

Hope this is approved -- competition is a good thing!
