The Colonial CASA Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Lisa Gibson as the organization's new executive director. CASA serves the abused and neglected children of the 9th Judicial District, including the cities of Williamsburg and Poquoson and York and James City counties.

Gibson will begin her new appointment July 12, and succeeds Rebecca Bresee, who has served as CCASA’s Executive Director since 2006. Bresee recently accepted the director of admission position at Hampton Roads Academy.

For the last four years, Gibson has served as executive director of the Historic Triangle Senior Center in James City County, where she successfully led the organization through the accreditation process with the National Institute of Senior Centers. There are just two other accredited senior centers in Virginia.

Gibson has also served as director of the Putnam County (Indiana) Community Foundation and as vice president at the Mental Health Association in Indiana. Gibson has a certificate in nonprofit management and a Master’s in Business, and was recently accepted into the 2011 class of the Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce’s “Leadership Historic Triangle.”

“Lisa brings with her a strong and dedicated background in non-profit management and community leadership, which is why we feel she will make significant strides in advancing the mission of Colonial CASA,” said T.J. Cardwell, president of CCASA’s Board of Directors. “The staff and the Board look forward to working with her.”

For Gibson the opportunity at Colonial CASA continues a lifetime commitment to non-profit work.

“I am very honored and excited to be chosen for this position,” she said. “I served as a CASA volunteer before moving to the Historic Triangle, and believe in its critical mission. Child abuse and neglect affect every level of our society, and I’m delighted to be in a position where I can help these children have a voice.”
