VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: June 27-July 3By WYDaily Staff Sunday, June 27, 2010 In an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events. Other closures may occur which do not appear on this report.For current traffic and travel information, visit the VDOT website, call 511, call the TrafficLine at 757-361-3016 or listen to 610AM. SPECIAL NOTICE: The Route 58 Midtown Tunnel will close on Sunday, June 27, from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. to perform routine tests on the tide gate system. Motorists should plan on using the I-264 Downtown Tunnel as an alternate route during this time. VDOT tests the tide gates twice a year at both the Route 58 Midtown Tunnel and I-64 Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel as a part of its scheduled preventative maintenance efforts. Motorists should expect an alternating lane closure from 5 to 6:30 a.m. and be alert to flagging operations prior to the tunnel closure. JAMES RIVER BRIDGE Route 17 North – Motorists should expect single, alternating lane closures on the James River Bridge for bridge repairs and pavement marking, Sunday, June 27, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.; Monday, June 28, through Thursday, July 1, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Route 17 South – Motorists should expect single, alternating lane closures on the James River Bridge for bridge repairs and pavement marking, Sunday, June 27, from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.; Monday, June 28, through Thursday, July 1, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. Route 17 South – Motorists should expect single lane closures on the James River Bridge for barrier gate maintenance, Wednesday, June 30, and Thursday, July 1, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. HAMPTON I-664 North – Motorists should expect off-ramp closures at Aberdeen Road (Exit 3) for pavement repair, Tuesday, June 29, and Wednesday, June 30, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists should be alert for detour signs. I-664 North – Motorists should expect on-ramp closures at Aberdeen Road (Exit 3) for pavement repair, Thursday, July 1, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists should be alert for detour signs. I-664 North – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from Warwick Boulevard (Exit 5) through Aberdeen Road (Exit 3) for drain installation, Monday, June 28, through Thursday, July 1, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-64 East – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from Route 58/Mercury Boulevard (Exit 263) to Mallory Street (Exit 268) for paving operations, Sunday, June 27, through Friday, July 2, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Warwick Boulevard East/West Route 60 – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures for construction activities on Warwick Boulevard from Nettles Drive to J. Clyde Morris Blvd. Sunday through Saturday. Anticipate overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6a.m. on both east and west bound lanes. Daytime lane closures should be expected daily from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on east and west bound lanes. These lane closures will be in effect through project completion in July 2010. HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL I-64 East – Motorists should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday, June 27, through Thursday, July 1, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011. Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations. For more project information, please visit the VDOT website. I-64 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures through the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel for tunnel maintenance, Sunday, June 27, through Thursday, July 1, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single lane closures in the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel for navigational lighting repairs, Sunday, June 27, from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. and Monday, June 28, through Wednesday, June 30, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. MIDTOWN TUNNEL Route 58 East/West – Motorists should expect single lane closures through the Midtown Tunnel for tunnel washing operations, west bound, Sunday, June 27, and Monday, June 28, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. and east bound, Tuesday, June 29, and Wednesday, June 30, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. DOWNTOWN TUNNEL I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for sweeping and roadway maintenance, Tuesday, June 29, from midnight to 5 a.m. I-264 East – Motorists should expect single lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel cleaning operations, Tuesday, June 29, and Wednesday, June 30, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-264 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures from the Downtown Tunnel to the Berkley Bridge for bridge overpass inspections, Thursday, July 1, from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. HOV LANES – REVERSIBLE ROADWAY I-64 East/West – The High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) reversible roadway will be closed for overnight paving operations, Monday, July 28, through Friday, July 2, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. NORFOLK I-564 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the Runway Tunnel for tunnel lighting repairs, Sunday, June 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. I-564 East/West – Motorists should expect single lane closures through the Runway Tunnel for tunnel washing, Tuesday, June 29, and Wednesday, June 30, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the I-464 (West) Interchange (Exit 1) to Ballentine Boulevard (Exit 13) for roadway repairs, Monday, June 28, through Wednesday, June 30, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Hampton Boulevard Grading Project Motorists should expect multiple lane closures, both north and south bound on Hampton Boulevard between “B” Avenue and Rogers Avenue to 90th Street for utility operations, Monday, June 28, through Thursday, July 1, daily from 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., nightly from Monday, June 28, through Thursday, July 1, from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. Portions of Greenbrier Avenue will be closed to all traffic through August 2010. A detour has been established. Motorists should be alert to detour signs and new traffic patterns in the area. PORTSMOUTH I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the Bower’s Hill Interchange (Exit 1) to Greenwood Drive (Exit 2) for roadway repairs, east bound, Sunday, June 27, and Monday, June 28, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. and west bound, Wednesday, June 30 and Thursday, July 1, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures, including shoulders and off and on ramps from the Bowers Hill Interchange (Exit 1) to Des Moines for paving operations, Sunday, June 27, through Friday, July 2, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. VIRGINIA BEACH Witchduck Road North/South –Motorists should expect single lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road and at North Amerbly and Witchduck Road for drain pipe installation, Monday, June 28, through Friday, July 2, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-264 East – Motorists should expect single lane closures from Rosemont Road (Exit 18) to Lynnhaven Parkway (Exit 19) for guard rail repairs, Monday, June 28, through Friday, July 2, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-264 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures from Birdneck Road (Exit 18) to Rosemont Road (Exit 22) for guard rail repair, Monday, June 28, through Friday, July 2, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. GILMERTON BRIDGE PROJECT Route 13 East/West - Motorists may experience delays, weekdays, from 3 to 5 p.m., due to flagging operations at the business entrances of One Steel and Southern States. Flaggers will assist commercial vehicular traffic turning onto Military Highway (Route 13), both north and south bound daily. Motorists should use caution as this operation is expected to remain in effect through the summer. Motorists are encouraged to use the I-64 High Rise Bridge as an alternative route to avoid delays. CHESAPEAKE/NORFOLK I-464 North/South – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures between the Military Highway Overpass and Main Street (Exit 5) for striping and paving operations, Sunday, June 27, through Thursday, July 1, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. CHESAPEAKE I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work. Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue through August 2011. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from I-264 Interchange (Exit 299) to Battlefield Boulevard (Exit 290) for lane and shoulder paving operations, Sunday, June 27, through Friday, July 2, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Mt. Pleasant Road South/Fentress Airfield Road West – Motorists should expect a single lane closure at the Mt. Pleasant Road/Fentress Road intersection and on Fentress Road to Blackwater Road for utility relocation operations, Monday, June 28, through Thursday, July 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday, July 2, from 9 a.m. to noon. Motorists should be alert for flagging operations. SMITHFIELD Route 10 East/West – Motorists should expect lane closures from Route 258 to Route 10 Business for paving operations and marking, Monday, June 28, through Friday, July 2, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. SURRY Route 10 East/West – Motorists should expect lane closures from Route 618 to Route 31 Business for paving operations and marking, Monday, June 28, through Friday, July 2, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY Route 616 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Route 626 to Route 600 for paving operations, Monday, June 28, through Thursday, July 1, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Route 35 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Route 665 to Route 673 and Route 1324 for paving operations, Monday, June 28, through Thursday, July 1, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. |
