VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: July 4-10

In an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events. Other closures may occur which do not appear on this report.

JAMES RIVER BRIDGE
Route 17 North – Motorists should expect single, alternating lane closures on the James River Bridge for bridge repairs and pavement marking, Wednesday, July 7, through Friday, July 9, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Tuesday, July 6, through Friday, July 9, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 17 South – Motorists should expect single, alternating lane closures on the James River Bridge for bridge repairs and pavement marking, Wednesday, July 7, through Friday, July 9, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesday, July 6, through Friday, July 9, from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.

HAMPTON
I-664 North – Motorists should expect off-ramp closures at Aberdeen Road (Exit 3) for pavement repair, Tuesday, July 6, through Thursday, July 8, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists should be alert for detour signs.

I-664 North – Motorists should expect off-ramp closures at Chestnut Street (Exit 4) for pavement repair, Wednesday, July 7, and Thursday, July 8, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists should be alert for detour signs.

I-64 East – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from Route 58/Mercury Boulevard (Exit 263) to Mallory Street (Exit 268) for paving operations, Tuesday, July 6, through Friday, July 9, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Warwick Boulevard East/West
Route 60 – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures for construction activities on Warwick Boulevard from Nettles Drive to J. Clyde Morris Boulevard Sunday through Saturday. Anticipate overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on both east and west bound lanes. Daytime lane closures should be expected daily from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on east and west bound lanes. These lane closures will be in effect through project completion in July 2010.

HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL
I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Tuesday, July 6, and Thursday, July 8, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011.

Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations.

I-64 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures through the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel for tunnel maintenance, Tuesday July 6, through Friday, July 9, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

DOWNTOWN TUNNEL

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for sweeping operations, Saturday, July 10, from midnight to 5 a.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the Bridge over Water Street and the I-264 ramp from Waterside Drive at the east end of the Berkley Bridge for bridge safety inspections, Wednesday, July 7, through Friday, July 9, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect single lane closures at Berkley Bridge for bridge safety inspections, Tuesday, July 6, through Friday, July 9, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures from the Des Moines Avenue to Bowers Hill in Portsmouth for paving operations, Tuesday, July 6, through Friday, July 9, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

HOV LANES – REVERSIBLE ROADWAY
I-64 East/West – The High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) reversible roadway will be closed for overnight paving operations, Tuesday, July 6, through Friday, July 9, from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

NORFOLK
Hampton Boulevard Grading Project
Motorists should expect multiple lane closures, both north and south bound on Hampton Boulevard between “B” Avenue and Rogers Avenue to 90th Street for utility operations, Wednesday, July 7 through Saturday, July 10, daily from 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., nightly from Wednesday, July 7 through Saturday, July 10, from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Motorists should be alert for alternating north and southbound closures daily, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Portions of Greenbrier Avenue will be closed to all traffic through August 2010. A detour has been established. Motorists should be alert to detour signs and new traffic patterns in the area.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures from East City Hall Avenue to the I-264 ramp to the Waterside Drive overpass for bridge safety inspections, Wednesday, July 7, through Friday, July 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures at Tidewater Drive at the I-264 ramp to the Waterside Drive overpass for bridge safety inspections, Wednesday, July 7, through Friday, July 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect single lane closures from the Waterside Drive ramp to the I-264 overpass for bridge safety inspections, Wednesday, July 7, through Friday, July 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures from the Waterside Drive Bridge over East City Hall Avenue, Tidewater Drive, and Holt Street for bridge safety inspections, Wednesday, July 7, through Friday, July 9, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH
I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from Ballentine Boulevard (Exit 12) to Independence Boulevard (Exit 17) for roadway repairs, Tuesday, July 6, through Friday, July 9, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

PORTSMOUTH
I-264 East – Motorists should expect a single lane closure at the Portsmouth Boulevard on-ramp for concrete and bridge deck joint repairs, Tuesday, July 6, through Thursday, July 8, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Motorists should also expect shoulder closures in the area.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures, including shoulders and off and on ramps from the Bowers Hill Interchange (Exit 1) to Des Moines for paving operations, Wednesday, July 6, through Friday, July 9, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

VIRGINIA BEACH
Witchduck Road North/South –Motorists should expect single lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road and at North Amerbly and Witchduck Road for drain pipe installation, Wednesday, July 7, through Friday, July 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

GILMERTON BRIDGE
Route 13 - Motorists may experience short traffic delays, due to flagging operations in the project work zone throughout the remainder of the project. Flaggers will be assisting with maintenance of vehicular traffic as needed during material deliveries, concrete pours and crane moves in both the north and south bound directions. Motorists should use caution, be alert to flaggers, and are reminded of the 35 MPH posted speed limit in the work zone. Motorists are encouraged to use the I-64 High Rise Bridge as an alternative route to avoid delays. For more information, please visit the project website.

CHESAPEAKE
I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Tuesday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work. Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue Sunday through Thursday until the end of August 2011.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from I-264 Interchange (Exit 299) to Battlefield Boulevard (Exit 290) for lane and shoulder paving operations, Tuesday, July 6, through Friday, July 9, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Mt. Pleasant Road South/Fentress Airfield Road West – Motorists should expect a single lane closure at the Mt. Pleasant Road/Fentress Road intersection for utility relocation operations, Tuesday, July 6, through Friday, July 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should be alert for flagging operations.

CHESAPEAKE/SUFFOLK
I-664 South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Pughsville Road (Exit 10) to the I-264/I-64 Interchange for roadway sweeping operations, Thursday, July 8 and Friday, July 9, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY
Route 58 East – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Route 35 to Route 742 for lens replacement and rumple strip installation, Wednesday, July 7, through Friday, July 9, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 35 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Route 665 to Route 673 and Route 1324 for paving operations, Wednesday, July 7, through Friday, July 9, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
