One Wounded, One Under Arrest in York Shooting

An early afternoon shooting Tuesday in the Bruton district of York County has left one man wounded and another under arrest.

York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office spokesman Mike Russell said two acquaintances, both men, were arguing in the street before one shot the other. Russell said he didn't know the nature of the argument, and the investigation so far didn't indicate both men had weapons.

Russell said deputies were called to the 100 block of Wellington Drive in the Queens Creek Estates neighborhood around 1:16 p.m. after reports of a shooting victim. When deputies arrived, both the victim and offender had left.

Acquaintances apparently left the scene with the victim intending to take him to a hospital, but stopped instead at James City County Fire Station 3 for help. Medics there transported the victim, a man in his early 20s, to a local hospital for treatment of what Russell called a "non-life threatening gunshot wound to the upper torso."

The suspect, later identified as 21-year-old Larry T. Jones of the 400 block of Hubbard Lane, drove to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail and turned himself in without incident. He has been charged with maimng and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. He is being held at the jail without bond.

Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.

my opinion - do you really think that the shooter had a concealed weapons permit? It's not the "bad guys" that follow the laws, so what difference does it make if the laws are relaxed?

To Kaper - there was a recent article about the new law that allows people to carry guns into restaurants and in their cars. Of course, people's views were on both sides of the issue. This York shooting struck me as a good reason why gun control should be tightened, not relaxed.

Shootings don't just happen. There was an argument between two people. One pulled a gun and shot the other. What reason is needed to make the conclusion here?

Shootings happen. I'd be interested in the reason before jumping to conclusions about the nature of the participants.

hmmm... if only the other guy had a gun - a bigger gun! With better aim!!! And maybe if someone drove by with guns in their glove compartment, maybe some people on their way to IHOP, more people could have been shot, and that would prove, once and for all, that only reasonable, rational, level headed adults carry guns, and we have nothing to fear about testosterone laden social misfits carrying guns.

The "code of silence" was on the way, in this incident, but didn't make it! Thanks, really, to this perp in our society who had a conscience and turned himself in the, "code of silence" so dastardly practiced in our society for years came to a stop!
