York Vandals Strike, Destroying Mailboxes and Breaking WindowsBy WYDaily Staff Friday, July 16, 2010 Residents in several central York County neighborhoods have awakened recently to find vandals had struck.The York-Poquoson Sheriffs Office is looking for information on the following crimes. Citizens on July 8 reported that mailboxes in the 400-500 block of Old Wormley Creek Road, 100 block of Colberts Trace and 300 block of Bolivar Drive had been destroyed with what appeared to be a blunt object. More than 30 mailboxes were damaged, and citizens also reported vehicles had been damaged. Then, sometime overnight on July 11 unknown suspect(s) damaged several vehicle windows parked in the Edgehill neighborhood, along with some mailboxes. Vehicles were damaged in the following blocks: 300 block of Grafton District Road, 200 block of York Warwick Drive, 200 block of Edgehill Lane (mailbox damage, too). Another vehicle had a window broken in the 100 block of Runaway Lane near Edgehill. Investigators say it appears that a blunt object, not a projectile, was used to break the windows and mailboxes. FYI - in relation to overall safety of homes, Police Officers shared that the simplest way to protect your home is to leave an exterior light on. Sure makes sense...if someone wants to break in, they'll choose a house where no one can see them first!
