James River Bridge Detour Sunday

A reminder to motorists headed South of the James on Sunday - you cannot use the James River Bridge from 8 a.m. to  4 p.m., as the southbound lanes will be closed for electrical maintenance work.

Northbound travel on the bridge will not be affected by the southbound closure.

The closure is required to enable crews to enter the work area, which is accessible only from the southbound lanes. Crews will repair the switchgear mechanisms and conduit associated with the electrical systems.

Motorists traveling south across the James River should use either the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel or the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel as an alternate route.
