At approximately 2:00PM EDT on Thursday, a small single-engine aircraft (Beechcraft) landed at Richmond International Airport with an issue that apparently led to a landing gear collapse on Runway Number 2.

The aircraft skidded 584 feet before coming to a rest just off the side of the runway, according to airport authorities.

One person – the pilot – was on board.  Sgt. Thomas J. Molnar, with the Virginia State Police, identified the pilot as John J. Peedin, 53, of Littleton, N.C. Molnar said Peedin was traveling here on business when the incident occurred.  He was not injured. The aircraft itself sustained relatively minor damage.

Runway 2/20 was temporarily closed Thursday afternoon while the aircraft was removed and the runway inspected for debris, reopening around 5:00 p.m.
