VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: July 25-31By WYDaily Staff Monday, July 26, 2010 In an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events. NEWPORT NEWS/ HAMPTON I-664 South – Motorists should expect multiple lane and shoulder closures from the I-64 Interchange (Exit 1) to the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel for bridge sweeping operations, Tuesday, July 27, through Thursday, July 29, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. I-664 North – Motorists should expect single lane closures at 35th Street (exit 5) for pavement repair, Monday, July 26, from 9 p.m. to midnight. I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect single lane closures at Chestnut Avenue and the I-664 overpass for bridge safety inspection, Tuesday, July 27, through Friday, July 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-664 North – Motorists should expect multiple mobile lane closures from Warwick Boulevard (Exit 5) to Aberdeen Road (Exit 3) for cleaning and sealing joints, Monday, July 25, through Wednesday, July 28, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-664 South – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from Powhatan Parkway (Exit 2) to Warwick Boulevard (Exit 5) for milling and paving operations, Monday, July 29, through Thursday, July 29, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-664 South – Motorists should expect multiple mobile lane closures at Powhatan Parkway (Exit 2) through Aberdeen Road (Exit 3) for milling and paving operations, Sunday, July 25, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. JAMES RIVER BRIDGE Route 17 North – Motorists should expect single, alternating lane closures on the James River Bridge for bridge repairs and pavement marking, Monday, July 26, through Friday, July 30, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, July 25, through Thursday, July 29, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Route 17 South – Motorists should expect single, alternating lane closures on the James River Bridge for bridge repairs, Sunday, July 25, through Thursday, July 29, from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. Route 17 South – Motorists should expect single lane closures from River Road to Kings Cove Way for maintenance repair testing, Monday, July 26, through Wednesday, July 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday, July 25 to Thursday, July 29, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011. Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations. For more project information, please visit the VDOT website. http://www.virginia.dot.org I-64 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures in the HRBT for sweeping operations and lighting repairs, Sunday, July 25, through Thursday, July 29, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. DOWNTOWN TUNNEL I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures in the tunnel for sweeping operations, Tuesday, July 27, and Friday, July 30, from midnight to 4 a.m. I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect single lane closures in the tunnel for drain cleaning operations, Sunday, July 25, through Thursday, July 29, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. NORFOLK Hampton Boulevard Grading Project Motorists should expect multiple lane closures, both north and south bound on Hampton Boulevard between “B” Avenue and Rogers Avenue to 90th Street for utility operations, Monday, July 26 through Saturday, July 31, daily from 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., and nightly from Monday, July 29 through Saturday, July 24, from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists should be alert for alternating north and southbound closures daily, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Portions of Greenbrier Avenue will be closed to all traffic through August 2010. A detour has been established. Motorists should be alert to detour signs and new traffic patterns in the area. Ballentine Boulevard North/South at I-264 overpass– Motorists should expect the alternating lane closures on Ballentine Boulevard at the I-264 overpass/Westminister Avenue intersection for overpass cleaning, sandblasting and painting, seven days a week from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. through September 2010. Daytime weekend lane closures may also impact traffic. I-64 West – Motorists should expect lane closures at Military Highway (Exit 281) for pavement repairs, Sunday, July 25, from midnight to 4 a.m. I-64 West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at 15th View for pavement repairs, Sunday, July 25, from 9 to 11 p.m. I-264 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures at East City Hall Avenue and the I-264 Westbound Overpass for bridge safety inspections, Tuesday, July 27, through Friday, July 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. HOV LANES – REVERSIBLE ROADWAY I-64 East/West – The High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) reversible roadway will be closed for storm drain cleaning, Monday, July 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. I-64 East/West – The HOV reversible roadway will be closed Monday, July 26, from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. for paving operations. PORTSMOUTH I-64 East– Motorists should expect ramp closures near Bowers Hill from I-64 East traveling to I-264 East. The off/on-ramp will be closed for paving operations, Sunday, July 25, through Thursday, July 29, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-264 West – Motorists should expect ramp closures near Bowers Hill from I-264 West traveling to I-64 West. The off/on-ramp will be closed for paving operations, Sunday, July 25, through Thursday, July 29, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures, including shoulders and off and on ramps from the Bowers Hill Interchange to Downtown Tunnel entrance for paving operations, Sunday, July 25, through Friday, July 30, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and Sunday, July 25, and Saturday, July 31, from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. I-264 East – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures from Effingham Street overpass (Exit 7) to the Berkley Bridge for paving and striping operations, Sunday, July 25, through Friday, July 30, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and Sunday, July 25, and Saturday, July 31, from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. HIGH RISE BRIDGE I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating mobile lane closures for bridge sweeping operations, Sunday, July 25, and Monday, July 26, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. CHESAPEAKE I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work. Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue Sunday through Thursday until the end of August 2011. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from I-264 Interchange (Exit 299) to Battlefield Boulevard (Exit 290) for guardrail repair, drainage improvements and paving operations, Sunday, July 25, through Friday, July 30, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from I-264 Interchange (Exit 299) to Battlefield Boulevard (Exit 290) for roadway marking repair, Monday, July 26, through Friday, July 30, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-664 North/South– Motorists should expect single lane closure from Bowers Hill Interchange to Goose Creek Bridge for roadway marking repair, Monday, July 26, through Friday, July 30, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-664 North/South– Motorists should expect mobile lane closures over Goose Creek Bridge for bridge safety inspection, Thursday, July 29, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. I-464 South– Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from the Military Highway overpass to Main Street for paving work, Sunday, July 25, through Thursday, July 29, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-464 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Military Highway to the Norfolk city limits for roadway marking repair, Monday, July 26, through Friday, July 30, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-464 North/South – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the Poindexter Street (Exit 4) overpass for bridge safety inspections, Tuesday, July 27, through Friday, July 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-664 North – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures over the Bailey Creek Bridge for bridge safety inspections, Thursday, July 29, from 9 p.m. to noon. Mt. Pleasant Road South/Fentress Airfield Road West – Motorists should expect a single lane closure at the Mt. Pleasant Road/Fentress Road intersection for utility relocation operations, Monday, July 26, through Friday, July 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should be alert for flagging operations. GILMERTON BRIDGE Route 13 - Motorists may experience short traffic delays, due to flagging operations in the project work zone throughout the remainder of the project. Flaggers will be assisting with maintenance of vehicular traffic as needed during material deliveries, concrete pours and crane moves in both the north and south bound directions. Motorists should use caution, be alert to flaggers, and are reminded of the 35 mph posted speed limit in the work zone. Motorists are asked to use extreme caution as work crews repair barrier walls on the traffic side of the wall.
