Scout Jamboree Ends, Gratitude Overflows

Bruton High student and Boy Scout Taylor Huber attended the 2010 National Scout Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill. He filed dispatches throughout, exclusively to WYDaily as Troop 1741's hometown correspondent. He's home now; this is his final report.

Now that it is the end of the 2010 National Scout Jamboree we can express our great appreciation for the person who made our Jamboree experience possible.

This person led Williamsburg’s Troop 1741 along from day one.  This person prepared troop meetings, organized almost every detail, and helped obtain necessary equipment. This person is Troop 1741’s Scoutmaster, Dave Coppinger.

At the very beginning Mr. Coppinger’s experience helped excite every Scout, and get new Scouts to participate in the Jamboree. He explained the process of Jamboree, and how it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

He told the Green Bar (Scout Leaders) what to expect from a Jamboree troop. If any Scout ever had a question, they would ask the Green Bar.  If the Green Bar did not know then Mr. Coppinger would know or be able to figure out the answer. Along with this, he helped me personally to become Troop 1741’s Hometown Correspondent. He explained the responsibility, arranged a meeting with Kim Lenz from WYDaily and provided needed support. Mr. Coppinger was vital to the entire Jamboree, not just as a Scoutmaster, but also as a man any Scout could come to for help.

During the Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, Mr. Coppinger played a crucial role in getting all the Scouts to where they needed to be and when they needed to be there. He did so much for this troop but he did not have to do it alone. He had critical help from other adult leaders: Glenn (Doc) Rauchwarg, Stan Scott and Torbit Lovelace. They all played a big part in getting Troop 1741 to and through the 2010 National Scout Jamboree, and for this every Scout from the troop thanks them dearly. It was a great, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and every leader made it very special.

This is the end, the fat lady has sung, and everyone will be in their beds tonight reflecting on the wonderful time these great men made possible. So may the great Scoutmasters of all Scouts be with us until we meet again. Goodbye, Scouts.

Truly was great reading about your experiences. Thank you Taylor for taking the time-- this, too, was a good experience for you...and your appreciation to your Scoutmastr and his helpers speaks wonders for you the troop.
Glad you all had a wonderful time and thanks again...

As a Boy Scout once upon a time, the WYD news accounts were greatly appreciated. Thank you! To the thousands of enthused Scouts from across our America, some of us apologize to you and to the unselfish Scout leaders for the President not finding time to come to VIRGINIA in person to greet you! Wonder why?

Taylor-
It was great reading your reports while you guys were at Jamboree. I especially enjoyed seeing Zach under the gateway in your first report-he worked tirelessly stripping barking and making lashings and I really wondered how it came out when it was all assembled. It looked great!
It was very nice of you to publicly thank the leaders, esp. Mr. C-he did set the tone for the whole troop. After about 18 mos of planning and hard work, all of you scouts (young and old) were able to have a truly special week with 45,000 of your closest friends!
Glad you all had a great time!!
