Save On School Supplies This Weekend

Virginia's back-to-school sales tax holiday is on.

Starting today at 12:01 a.m. and continuing through midnight Sunday, Aug. 8, purchases of certain school supplies, clothing and footwear are exempt from the state sales tax. Each eligible school supply item must be priced at $20 or less, and each eligible article of clothing or footwear must be priced at $100 or less.

Retailers may choose to absorb the tax on other items during this holiday period, but the retailers become responsible for paying the tax on those items to the state Department of Taxation.
