Storms Keep Dominion Crews Busy; Power Could Be Out Until Saturday Night

Thursday evening’s strong thunderstorms left tens of thousands of people in the Triangle without power, with more than 2,000 residents still without power Friday afternoon.

Approximately 20,000 customers served by Dominion’s Williamsburg office (which serves Williamsburg and parts of James City County, York County, and New Kent County) were affected when the storm and high winds damaged power lines, according to a Dominion spokesperson. According to a Dominion press release, the storm had “near-hurricane force winds and heavy rains.”

As of Friday afternoon, there were still 210 residents of Williamsburg, 251 residents of York County and 1,950 residents of James City County without power. All available Dominion personnel are focused on outage work, and neighboring utilities and contractors are providing additional help. Dominion expects all the lines to be restored by Saturday evening.

Starting at 4 p.m. Friday, customers can call Dominion at 1-866-366-4357 to get a specific time power will likely be restored to their residence. Customers may continue to call through the day to get more accurate time estimates.

I am wondering why CW lost its electricity on Friday about 11:30 AM, long after the Thursday storm.

My idea of hell has been Williamsburg in a heat wave, with an electrical outage, which is why I'm at my CA home, where the daytime temperature was 70 ish today, with 60s at night.

Granted the fog banks here in Santa Cruz last beyond noon, with a few hours of sunshine in the afternoon, but I'll take it! See ya in October.....
