Improved Connections on Local Bus Lines

Williamsburg Area Transit Authority bus riders will note some changes to the Blue and Purple lines this week.

The WAT Purple Line no longer connects between Old Towne Medical Center/Human Services Center and the shopping center at Ewell Station on Richmond Road. That connection is now made by the WAT Blue Line. The change was put into effect Monday.

The changes were made to make connections between WAT’s hubs at the Williamsburg Outlet Mall and Williamsburg Transportation Center more efficient, according to a press release. The bus rides will also be a bit shorter for riders from other connections. A passenger traveling to Old Town Medical Center from a stop on the Gray or Orange Lines could save 30 to 45 minutes.

“This is another step forward in WATA’s continuing effort to improve our transit service to our ridership, the people who live, work and visit the greater Williamsburg area,” said Leon Sisco, WATA Operations Director.

Wish the bus service went further down Jamestown Rd, with a stop before the ferry, perhaps at the 7-11.

For the record, this local back in the winter did set out to ride the public bus system from town out to as far as it went into the county, being Anderson's Corner. My emperical experiences (ACTUAL and REAL) were A for excellence solely on the basis of lady drivers...both, back then, on the Blue and Purple transfers. This local learned soooo much about that system, and came away with a true admiration for the two ladies driving the buses. For the pay earned from the city, dismal, those two ladies deserve a medal! I also was highly impressed with the large majority of passengers who used the system as a necessity. Almost all were congenial, especially the two drivers who ALWAYS greeted each and every rider and went the extra mile to help!!!

Are maps and schedules of all the lines available in either/both printed and on-line forms? All I could find on-line was a list of stops, and I'm not sure whether it contains these recent changes.

In Chapel Hill, NC, buses constantly use GPS to report their locations, so anyone can use any computer Web browser to display the time of the next bus at any stop.
