VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: Aug. 15-21

vdotlogoIn an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events. Other closures may occur that do not appear on this report.

YORK COUNTY

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect lane closures at Water Country Road between Route 143 (Exit 238) and Route 199 (Exit 242) for bridge deck repair, Monday, August 16, through Thursday, August 26, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

NEWPORT NEWS/ HAMPTON

I-64 West – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures at J. Clyde Morris Boulevard (Exit 258) for roadway maintenance, Monday, August 16, through Friday, August 20, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Motorists should also be alert for shoulder closures, Monday, August 16, through Friday, August 20, from 5 to 9 a.m. and from 2 to 8 p.m.

I-664 North – Motorists should expect multiple mobile lane closures from Warwick Boulevard (Exit 5) to I-64 Interchange (Exit 1) for milling and paving operations, Sunday, August 15, through Thursday, August 19, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-664 North – Motorists should be alert for detours associated with the 35th Street on-ramp closure for guardrail repairs, Tuesday, August 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

I-664 South – Motorists should expect a single lane closure at Terminal Avenue (Exit 7) for barrier wall repairs, Tuesday, August 17, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.

JAMES RIVER BRIDGE
Route 17 South – Motorists should expect single left lane closures from River Road to Kings Cove Way for maintenance tests, Monday, August 16, through Friday, August 20, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 17 North – Motorists should expect single, alternating lane closures on the James River Bridge for pavement marking, Monday, August 16, through Friday, August 20, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, August 15, through Thursday, August 19, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 17 South – Motorists should expect single, alternating lane closures on the James River Bridge for bridge repairs, Sunday, August 15, through Thursday, August 19, from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.

HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL

I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday, August 15, to Thursday, August 19, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011.

Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations.

DOWNTOWN TUNNEL

I-264 East – Motorists should expect single right lane closures through the Tunnel and the eastbound Tunnel entrance for expansion joint rehabilitation, Sunday, August 15, through Friday, August 20, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

MIDTOWN TUNNEL
Route 58 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures through the Tunnel for tunnel lighting, drain cleaning and pavement repairs, Sunday, August 15, through Thursday, August 19, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

HAMPTON/NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH/CHESAPEAKE
I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the High Rise Bridge in Chesapeake, through the cities of Norfolk and Virginia Beach to Mallory Street in Hampton for vegetation control, Monday, August 16, and Tuesday, August 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

NORFOLK
Hampton Boulevard Grading Project

Motorists should expect multiple lane closures, both north and south bound on Hampton Boulevard between “B” Avenue and Rogers Avenue to 90th Street for utility operations, Monday, August 15 through Saturday, August 21, daily from 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., and nightly from Monday, August 15, through Saturday, August 21, from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Motorists should be alert for alternating north and southbound closures daily, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Portions of Greenbrier Avenue will be closed to all traffic through August 2010. A detour has been established. Motorists should be alert to detour signs and new traffic patterns in the area.

Ballentine Boulevard North/South at I-264 overpass– Motorists should expect the alternating lane closures on Ballentine Boulevard at the I-264 overpass/Westminister Avenue intersection for overpass cleaning, sandblasting and painting, seven days a week from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. through September 2010. Daytime weekend lane closures may also affect traffic.

I-64 East/West HOV Reversible Roadway – The HOV Reversible Roadway will be closed for sweeping operations, Saturday, August 21, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

I-64 East – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at 4th View (Exit 273) for overhead sign maintenance Wednesday, August 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-64 West – Motorists should expect ramp closures at the Granby Street (Exit 276) on-ramp for roadway lighting repairs, Wednesday, August 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Tidewater Drive (Exit 10) to Newtown Road (Exit 15) for pavement marking, Monday, August 16, through Friday, August 20, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Newtown Road (Exit 15) to Military Highway (Exit 13) for vegetation control, Wednesday, August 18, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from City Hall Avenue to Newtown Road for roadway sweeping, Sunday, August 15, through Thursday, August 19, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-564 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the I-64 Interchange to Admiral Tausig Boulevard for vegetation control, Monday, August 16, and Tuesday, August 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-564 West – Motorists should expect the HOV Reversible Roadway exit onto I-564 to be closed for pavement repairs Tuesday, August 17, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

I-564 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures on the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes for sign inspections, Monday, August 16, through Thursday, August 19, from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m.

PORTSMOUTH
I-264 West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Frederick Boulevard (Exit 6) for overhead sign maintenance, Thursday, August 19, and Friday, August 20, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Des Moines Avenue (Exit 5) for overhead sign maintenance, Wednesday, August 18, and Thursday, August 19, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Route 164 East – Motorists should expect a single lane closure at Cedar Lane for guardrail repairs, Monday August 16, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Route 164 East – Motorists should expect a single lane closure at Town Point Road for guardrail repairs, Monday August 16, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

CHESAPEAKE
I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work.  Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue Sunday through Thursday until the end of August 2011.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from I-264 Interchange (Exit 299) to Battlefield Boulevard (Exit 290) for guardrail repair, drainage improvements and paving operations, Sunday, August 15, through Friday, August 20, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

I-664 South – Motorists should expect a single lane closure from Dock Landing Road (Exit 12) and the Bowers Hill Interchange (Exit 13) for guardrail repair, Wednesday, August 18, from 10 p.m. to midnight.

I-464 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the Route 168 Interchange to Berkley Avenue for vegetation control, Wednesday, August 18, and Thursday, August 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-464 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the Route 168 Interchange to Berkley Avenue for roadway sweeping, Sunday, August 15, through Thursday, August 19, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-464 North/South– Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from the Military Highway overpass to Main Street (Exit 5) for pavement marking, Sunday, August 15, through Thursday, August 19, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-464 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from the I-64 Interchange (Exit 1) to the Downtown Tunnel I-264 Interchange (Exit 6) for overhead sign operations, Monday, August 16, through Thursday, August 19, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Motorists should be alert for detours associated with on and off ramp closures.

I-664 North – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures for the underside inspection of the Bailey Creek Bridge near the I-64/I-264 Interchange, Tuesday, August 17, from 9 p.m. to midnight.

I-664 North – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures for the underside inspection of the Goose Creek Bridge near Dock Landing Road, Tuesday, August 17, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Mt. Pleasant Road South – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the intersection of Mt. Pleasant Road and Fentress Airfield Road for utility relocation operations, Monday, August 16, through Thursday, August 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Motorists should be alert for flagging operations.

HIGH RISE BRIDGE

I-64 West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures over the High Rise Bridge for generator inspection, Thursday, August 19, from 11 to 11:30 a.m.

GILMERTON BRIDGE

Route 13 - Motorists may experience short traffic delays, due to flagging operations in the project work zone throughout the remainder of the project.  Flaggers will be assisting with maintenance of vehicular traffic as needed during material deliveries, concrete pours and crane moves in both the north and south bound directions. Motorists should use caution, be alert to flaggers, and are reminded of the 35 MPH posted speed limit in the work zone.

Motorists are asked to use extreme caution as work crews repair barrier walls on the traffic side of the wall.

Motorists are encouraged to use the I-64 High Rise Bridge as an alternative route to avoid delays.  For more information, please visit the project website.

VIRGINIA BEACH
I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect single lane closures from Rosemont Road to Birdneck Road, including the I-64 Flyover for paving operations and guardrail improvements Monday, August 16, through Thursday, August 19, westbound from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. and eastbound from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Motorists should be alert for detours associated with on- and off-ramp closures. Motorists should also expect shoulder closures.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Parks Avenue to I-Newtown Road (Exit 15) for pavement repairs, Sunday, August 15, through Thursday, August 19, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Witchduck Road North/South –Motorists should expect single lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road and at North Amerbly and Witchduck Road for drain pipe installation, Monday, August 16, through Friday, August 20, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

CHESAPEAKE/SUFFOLK

I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures between the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel and the Bowers Hill Interchange (Exit 13) for pavement marking, Wednesday, August 18, and Thursday, August 19, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

SMITHFIELD

Route 10 East/West – Motorists should expect lane closures from Route 258 to Route 10/Business for pavement marking, Monday, August 16, through Friday, August 20, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

ISLE OF WIGHT
Route 17 North – Motorists should expect a mobile lane closure on Route 17 towards the James River Bridge for equipment transport, Sunday, August 15, through Thursday, August 19, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Motorists should be alert for intermittent traffic stoppages.

SUSSEX COUNTY

Route 460 East/West – Motorists should be alert for single lane closures on Route 460 for paving and pavement marking, Monday, August 16, through August 20, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Why do you have to work on all of the roads at the same time, so that there is no alternate routes? Traffic will be backed up everywhere! However, thank you for working to keep our roads looking good.
