JCC Police Offer Free Firearm Safety Class, Gunlocks

Beginning in September, the James City County Police Department will offer a free firearm safety class to the public. The one-session class will cover basic safety, handling and storage.

Sessions will be held on a pair of Saturdays, Sept. 11 and 18, and on Monday, Oct. 11.

The class will meet at the Law Enforcement Center, 5087 John Tyler Highway, from 10 a.m. to noon. The class does not include hands-on training; personal firearms should be left at home in a secure location.

Pre-registration is required and class size is limited. Call the James City County Police Department at 757-253-1800 to register.

Grant funding received from the National Rifle Association Foundation and Project ChildSafe was used to purchase class materials and gunlocks. Free gunlocks are available at the class or by calling Sergeant Steve Humphries at 253-2481.

Knowledge is power and the more you know about firearms and firearms safety the more you will realize that firearms, properly stored, are safe.
