VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: Aug. 22-28

vdotlogoIn an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events. Other closures may occur that do not appear on this report.

YORK COUNTY
I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect lane closures at Water Country Road between Route 143 (Exit 238) and Route 199 (Exit 242) for bridge deck repair, Monday, August 23, through Thursday, August 26, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

NEWPORT NEWS/ HAMPTON
I-664 North – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Aberdeen Road (Exit 3) for milling, paving and pavement marking operations, Sunday, August 22, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-664 North – Motorists should expect multiple mobile lane closures from 35th Street (Exit 5) to I-64 Interchange (Exit 1) for milling and paving operations, Monday, August 23, through Thursday, August 26, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-664 South – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Roanoke Avenue for overhead sign maintenance and repair, Tuesday, August 24, and Wednesday, August 25, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

I-664 South – Motorists should expect single lane closures past the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel for overhead sign repair and maintenance, Tuesday, August 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

JAMES RIVER BRIDGE
Route 17 South – Motorists should expect single left lane closures from River Road to Kings Cove Way for maintenance tests, Monday, August 23, through Friday, August 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 17 North – Motorists should expect single, alternating lane closures on the James River Bridge for bridge repair, Monday, August 23, through Friday, August 27, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, August 22, through Thursday, August 26, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 17 South – Motorists should expect single, alternating lane closures on the James River Bridge for bridge joint repairs, Sunday, August 22, through Thursday, August 26, from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. and from Monday, August 23, through Friday, August 27, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

MONITOR-MERRIMAC MEMORIAL BRIDGE-TUNNEL

I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect single lane closures in the MMMBT for fire extinguisher inspection Tuesday, August 24, from 7 to 11 p.m.  Motorists should expect intermittent traffic stoppages of up to 15 minutes during the inspection closure.

HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL
I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday, August 22, to Thursday, August 26, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011.

Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664.  Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single lane closures in the HRBT for sign, signal and camera repair and maintenance, Wednesday, August 25, and Thursday, August 26, from 9 p.m. to midnight.

DOWNTOWN TUNNEL

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures through the Tunnel for tunnel sweeping operations, Tuesday, August 24, through Friday, August 27, from midnight to 5 a.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect a single right lane closure through the Downtown Tunnel for joint expansion repair, Sunday, August 22, through Friday, August 27, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect a single left lane closure through the Downtown Tunnel for camera repair, Saturday, August 21, from 6 to 11 a.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect a single right lane closure through the Downtown Tunnel for light repair and drainage inspection, Tuesday, August 24, and Wednesday, August 25, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

NORFOLK
I-264 East Berkley Bridge – Motorists should expect a single left lane closure on the Berkley Bridge for bridge safety inspection, Monday, August 23, through Friday, August 27, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East - Motorists should expect ramp closures at the I-64 Interchange for guardrail repairs, Tuesday, August 24, from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures at Ballentine Boulevard for overhead sign repair and maintenance, Tuesday, August 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect ramp closures at the Waterside Drive bridge ramp (Exit 10) for bridge safety inspection, Monday, August 23, through Friday, August 27, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Tidewater Drive (Exit 10) to Newtown Road (Exit 15) for pavement marking, Sunday, August 22, through Friday, August 27, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at Tidewater Drive (Exit 10) for paving operations and guardrail repair, Monday, August 23, through Thursday, August 26, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists should be alert for detours associated with on- and off-ramp closures. Motorists should expect shoulder closures.

I-464 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures between the Military Highway Overpass and Main Street (Exit 5) for roadway striping operations, Sunday, August 22, and Monday, August 23, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-464 South – Motorists should expect a mobile lane closures at Berkley Avenue for bridge joint repair, Sunday, August 22, from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.

I-564 South – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at the Terminal Boulevard Overpass for overhead sign repair and maintenance, Wednesday, August 25, and Thursday, August 26, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Hampton Boulevard Grading Project

Motorists should expect multiple lane closures, both north and south bound on Hampton Boulevard between “B” Avenue and Rogers Avenue to 90th Street for utility operations, Monday, August 23 through Saturday, August 28, daily from 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., and nightly from Monday, August 23, through Saturday, August 28, from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Motorists should be alert for alternating north and southbound closures daily, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Portions of Greenbrier Avenue will be closed to all traffic through August 2010. A detour has been established. Motorists should be alert to detour signs and new traffic patterns in the area.

Ballentine Boulevard North/South at I-264 overpass– Motorists should expect the alternating lane closures on Ballentine Boulevard at the I-264 overpass/Westminster Avenue intersection for overpass cleaning, sandblasting and painting, seven days a week from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. through September 2010. Daytime weekend lane closures may also impact traffic.

NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH/CHESAPEAKE

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-264 Interchange for vegetation control, Tuesday, August 24, through Thursday, August 26, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-264 Interchange for roadway sweeping, Sunday, August 22, through Thursday, August 26, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

VIRGINIA BEACH/NORFOLK

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Parks Avenue to Newtown Road (Exit 15) for pavement repairs, Sunday, August 22, through Thursday, August 26, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

PORTSMOUTH

I-264 West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the Elm Avenue overpass to the Bowers Hill Interchange for paving, pavement marking and guardrail repair operations, Sunday, August 22, through Friday, August 27, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures through the Downtown Tunnel for pavement marking operations, Sunday, August 22, and Monday, August 23, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to Des Moines Avenue, including ramp closures, for overhead sign maintenance, Monday, August 23, through Thursday, August 26, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

CHESAPEAKE

I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work. Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue Sunday through Thursday until the end of August 2011.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from I-264 Interchange (Exit 299) to Battlefield Boulevard (Exit 290) for guardrail repair, drainage improvements and paving operations, Sunday, August 22, through Friday, August 27, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

I-64 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the Yadkin Road Overpass for overhead sign repair and maintenance, Tuesday, August 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the off ramp from the Bowers Hill Interchange to I-64 West for guardrail operations, Sunday, August 22, through Friday, August 27, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-464 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the Route 168 Interchange to Berkley Avenue for roadway sweeping, Sunday, August 22, and Thursday, August 26, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-464 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the I-64 Interchange to Freeman Avenue for shoulder repairs, Monday, August 23, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-464 North/South– Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from the Military Highway overpass to Main Street (Exit 5) for pavement marking, Monday, August 23, through Thursday, August 26, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-664 North – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the Goose Creek Bridge for underside bridge inspection, Tuesday, August 24, from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

I-664 North – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the Bailey Creek Bridge for underside bridge inspection, Tuesday, August 24, from 9 a.m. to noon.

I-664 South – Motorists should expect single lane closures between Dock Landing and Bowers Hill for guard rail repairs, Tuesday, August 24, from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Mt. Pleasant Road South – Motorists should expect a westbound road closures at the intersection of Mt. Pleasant Road and Fentress Airfield Road for utility relocation operations, Sunday, August 22, and Monday, August 23, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists should be alert for flagging operations.

HIGH RISE BRIDGE

I-64 West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures over the High Rise Bridge for bridge gate and beam cleaning operations, Saturday, August 21, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

GILMERTON BRIDGE

Route 13 - Motorists may experience short traffic delays, due to flagging operations in the project work zone throughout the remainder of the project.  Flaggers will be assisting with maintenance of vehicular traffic as needed during material deliveries, concrete pours and crane moves in both the north and south bound directions. Motorists should use caution, be alert to flaggers, and are reminded of the 35 MPH posted speed limit in the work zone.

Motorists are asked to use extreme caution as work crews repair barrier walls on the traffic side of the wall.

Motorists are encouraged to use the I-64 High Rise Bridge as an alternative route to avoid delays. For more information, please visit the project website.

VIRGINIA BEACH

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect single lane closures at Rosemont Road, Lynnhaven Parkway, and First Colonial Road for paving operations and guardrail improvements Monday, August 23, through Thursday, August 26, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists should be alert for detours associated with on- and off-ramp closures. Motorists should also expect shoulder closures.

Witchduck Road North/South –Motorists should expect single lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road and at North Amerbly and Witchduck Road for drain pipe installation, Monday, August 23, through Friday, August 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SURRY

Route 40 North/South – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures on Route 40 in Surry County for pavement striping operations, Monday, August 23,through Friday, August 27, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Route 10 East/West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from Route 618 to Route 31 for pavement striping operations, Monday, August 23,through Friday, August 27, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Route 10 East/West – Motorists should expect to detour from Route 10 between Route 617 to Route 650 for emergency replacement of the cross drain pipe. The roadway will be closed beginning 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 24, through 7 a.m. Wednesday, August 25.
