WM Senior's Cartoons Debut in Washington Post

Rising William and Mary senior Olivia Walch can now add “professional cartoonist” to her resumé.

Walch won The Washington Post’s America’s Next Great Cartoonist contest in July, and aside from $1,000, she also won publication for a month in the Post.

Her comic strip, which made its debut Monday, is called Imogen Quest. It’s based on the character she created during the contest.

Walch told William and Mary’s press room that she’s finished up nearly all her strips for the month. Although they’re all stand-alone comics, some weeks have themes, she told the college.

Over the summer, WYDaily followed Walch’s progress as she made it into the top five contestants and then went on to win the contest. She was the only woman to make it into the top 10. Read a story about Walch’s win here.

During the week, her work will appear on page C2 of The Washington Post’s Style section. On Sundays, it will appear in the Style and Arts section.
