VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: Sept. 12-18By WYDaily Staff Sunday, September 12, 2010 In an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events. YORK COUNTY Route 199 East/West – Motorists should expect single mobile lane closures at Mooretown Road (Route 603) and the Route 60 Interchange for sign safety inspection, Sunday, September 12, through Friday, September 17, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Route 60 East/West – Motorists should expect single mobile lane closures at the I-64 entrance ramp at the Busch Gardens exit for sign safety inspections, Sunday, September 12, through Friday, September 17, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. YORK COUNTY/JAMES CITY COUNTY I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single, mobile lane closures between Route 30/607 (Exit 231) and Route 143 (Exit 243) for sign safety inspection, Sunday, September 12, through Friday, September 17, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. JAMES CITY COUNTY Route 199 South – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the intersection of Route 5 for grading and excavation operations, Monday, September 13, through Friday, September 17, from 9 a.m. 3 p.m. NEWPORT NEWS/HAMPTON I-664 North - Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from Powhatan Parkway (Exit 2) to Aberdeen Road (Exit 3) for milling, paving and pavement marking operations, Sunday, September 12, through Tuesday, September 14, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-664 South – Motorists should expect multiple mobile lane closures from 35th Street (Exit 5) to I-64 Interchange (Exit 1) for pavement marking, Thursday, September 16, and Friday, September 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-664 South – Motorists should expect shoulder closures on I-664 southbound for guardrail installation, Monday, September 13, through Wednesday, September 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-64 West – Motorists should expect lane closures from Jefferson Avenue (Exit 255) to Mercury Boulevard (Exit 263) for bridge deck repairs, Monday, September 13, through Thursday, September 16, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. JAMES RIVER BRIDGE Route 17 South – Motorists should expect a lane closure at the abutment to the draw house for fiber optic operations, Monday, September 13, through Friday, September 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesday, September 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Route 17 North – Motorists should expect alternating mobile lane closures for equipment positioning, Sunday, September 12, through Thursday, September 16, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Route 17 South – Motorists should expect single, alternating lane closures on the James River Bridge for beam end repairs, Sunday, September 12, through Thursday, September 16, from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. MONITOR-MERRIMAC MEMORIAL BRIDGE-TUNNEL I-664 North – Motorists should expect single lane closures in the MMMBT for drain cleaning operations, Sunday, September 12, through Thursday, September 16, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday, September 12, to Thursday, September 16, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011. Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. DOWNTOWN TUNNEL I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures through the Tunnel for tunnel washing operations, eastbound, Sunday, September 12, and westbound, Monday, September 13, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-264 East – Motorists should expect a single left lane closure through the Downtown Tunnel for expansion joint rehabilitation, Sunday, September 12, Wednesday, September 15 and Thursday, September 16, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect a single mobile alternating lane closures through the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel sweeping operations, Tuesday, September 14, through Friday, September 17, from midnight to 4 a.m. NORFOLK I-64 East – Motorists should expect partial ramp closures at the I-264 Interchange for soil test boring, Wednesday, September 15, and Thursday, September 16, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the Berkley Bridge to Newtown Road (Exit 15) for pavement marking, Sunday, September 12, through Friday, September 17, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Hampton Boulevard Grading Project Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures, both north and south bound on Hampton Boulevard between “B” Avenue and Rogers Avenue for utility operations and night paving, Monday, September 13, through Saturday, September 18, from 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., and nightly from Monday, September 13, through Thursday, September 16, from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. Ballentine Boulevard North/South at I-264 overpass – Motorists should expect the alternating lane closures on Ballentine Boulevard at the I-264 overpass/Westminster Avenue intersection for overpass cleaning, sandblasting and painting, seven days a week from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. through September 2010. Daytime weekend lane closures may also impact traffic. CHESAPEAKE I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the I-64 Interchange in Norfolk to the Bowers Hill Interchange in Chesapeake for drain cleaning operations, Sunday, September 12, through Thursday, September 16, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill interchange to the I-464 interchange, Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work. Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue Sunday through Thursday until the end of August 2011. I-64 East – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the Route 17/George Washington Highway underpass for bridge maintenance, Monday, September 13, through Thursday, September 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should also be alert for shoulder closures in the area. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from I-264 interchange (Exit 299) to Battlefield Boulevard (Exit 290) for guardrail repair, drainage improvements and paving operations, Sunday, September 12, through Friday, September 17, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists should be alert for detours associated with on- and off-ramp closures. Motorists should also expect shoulder closures. I-464 North – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at the I-64 Interchange for overhead sign maintenance and repair, Thursday, September 16, and Friday, September 17, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. GILMERTON BRIDGE Route 13 - Motorists may experience short traffic delays, due to flagging operations in the project work zone throughout the remainder of the project. Flaggers will be assisting with maintenance of vehicular traffic as needed during material deliveries, concrete pours and crane moves in both the north and south bound directions. Motorists should use caution, be alert to flaggers, and are reminded of the 35 MPH posted speed limit in the work zone. Motorists are asked to use extreme caution as work crews repair barrier walls on the traffic side of the wall. Motorists are encouraged to use the I-64 High Rise Bridge as an alternative route to avoid delays. For more information, please visit the project website.
