Officer and Civilian Receive Crime Line AwardsBy Desiree Parker Saturday, September 18, 2010
L-R: Elsa Korrigan; Police Chief David Sloggie; Officer Timothy Walker; Mike Kuhns, President, Peninsula Crime Line, Inc.
Officer Timothy Walker of the Williamsburg Police Department was chosen as “Top Cop” and Elsa Korrigan, member of the Human Services staff, was named Williamsburg’s “Most Outstanding Civilian.” Walker has worked at the police department since 2007, and has been described by fellow officers as having “an exceptional level of initiative” as well as a strong commitment to team work and willingness to work overtime and volunteer, according to a press release issued Friday. In over 20 incidents since the First Responder Program began, Walker was the first responder on the scene. He’s also a member of the bike patrol, and has received numerous awards and commendations, including the MADD Award for highest number of drunk driving arrests in the Williamsburg Police Department and a City Service Award for which he was acknowledged for being an effective and loyal public servant. Korrigan was recognized for her assistance to the police department with cases involving the Hispanic and Latino community. This is the first time the department has nominated a civilian for this award. Korrigan has worked for the Social Services department for three years, and often helps the police as a translator. Her help recently resulted in three arrests, according to the press release. In his nomination of Korrigan, Williamsburg Police Chief David Sloggie wrote, “For a civilian who does not have the conditioning that most cops have involving human suffering, Mrs. Korrigan went above and beyond the call of duty.” Since 1982, the Peninsula Crime Line has been supporting 1-888-Lock-U-Up (1-888-562-5887), the regional crime line.
