VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: Sept. 19-25

vdotlogoIn an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events.  Other closures may occur which do not appear on this report.

YORK COUNTY

Route 199 East/West – Motorists should expect single mobile lane closures at Mooretown Road (Route 603) interchange for sign safety inspection, Sunday, September 19, and Monday, September 20, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

COLEMAN BRIDGE
Route 17 North/South – The Coleman Bridge will close for overhead sign replacement, southbound, Monday, September 20, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. and northbound, Tuesday, September 21, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists should also be alert for shoulder closures.

YORK COUNTY/JAMES CITY COUNTY
I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single, mobile lane closures between Route 30/607 (Exit 231) and Route 143 (Exit 234) for sign safety inspection, Sunday, September 19, and Monday, September 20, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

NEWPORT NEWS/ HAMPTON

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the Denbigh Boulevard bridge for bridge inspection, Tuesday, September 21, from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

I-64 West – Motorists should expect lane closures from J. Clyde Morris (Exit 258) to Mercury Boulevard (Exit 263) for sign safety inspection, Monday, September 20, through Wednesday, September 22, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-664 North – Motorists should expect multiple mobile lane closures from 35th Street (Exit 5) to I-64 Interchange (Exit 1) for pavement marking, Sunday, September 19, through Thursday, September 23, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-664 South – Motorists should expect shoulder and off-ramp closures at the Jefferson Avenue Overpass (Exit 5) for bridge safety inspection, Monday, September 20, through Friday, September 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

JAMES RIVER BRIDGE
Route 17 North – Motorists should expect alternating mobile lane closures for equipment positioning, Sunday, September 19, through Thursday, September 23, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 17 South – Motorists should expect a lane closure at the abutment to the draw house for fiber optic operations, Monday, September 20, through Friday, September 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 17 South – Motorists should expect single, alternating lane closures on the James River Bridge for beam end repairs, Sunday, September 19, through Thursday, September 23, from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 17 North/South - Motorists should expect single, mobile lane closures on the James River Bridge for bridge safety inspection, Monday, September 20, through Friday, September 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL

I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday, September 19, to Thursday, September 23, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011.

Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations.

I-64 West – Motorists should expect single right lane closures starting on the southwest bridge proceeding through the tunnel and ending on the north island, for tile and grate repair, Sunday, September 19, through Thursday, September 23, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 West – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures at the HRBT for drain cleaning operations, Sunday, September 19, through Thursday, September 23, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

DOWNTOWN TUNNEL

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect traffic stoppages in the Downtown Tunnel for maintenance testing, Tuesday, September 21, east bound at 1 a.m. and west bound at 2 a.m. Traffic stoppages should last approximately 30 minutes in each direction.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect a single mobile alternating lane closures through the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel sweeping operations, Tuesday, September 21, and Friday, September 24, from midnight to 4 a.m.

NORFOLK

I-264 East – Motorists should expect partial ramp closures at the I-264 Interchange at Newtown Road for soil test boring, Sunday, September 19, and Thursday, September 23, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the Virginia Beach Boulevard overpass for bridge deck repair, Tuesday, September 21, from 9 to 11 a.m.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from the I-264 Interchange to 15th View for roadway sweeping operations, Sunday, September 19, through Thursday, September 23, from 9 p.m. to 5 a .m.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the Berkley Bridge to Newtown Road (Exit 15) for pavement marking, Sunday, September 19, through Friday, September 24, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-464 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures at the I-64 bridge for roadway sweeping and drain cleaning, Sunday, September 19, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-564 East – Motorists should expect a mobile lane closures for electrical lighting repair, Tuesday, September 21 and Wednesday, September 22, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Hampton Boulevard Grading Project
Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures, both north and south bound on Hampton Boulevard between “B” Avenue and Rogers Avenue for utility operations and night paving, Monday, September 20, through Saturday, September 25, from 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., and nightly from Monday, September 20, through Thursday, September 23, from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m.  

Ballentine Boulevard North/South at I-264 overpass– Motorists should expect the alternating lane closures on Ballentine Boulevard at the I-264 overpass/Westminster Avenue intersection for overpass cleaning, sandblasting and painting, seven days a week from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. through September 2010. Daytime weekend lane closures may also affect traffic.

PORTSMOUTH
I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect single mobile lane closures between Victory Boulevard (Exit 3) and Effingham Street (Exit 7) for sign safety inspection, Wednesday, September 22, through Friday, September 24, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-464 North/South – Motorists should expect single mobile lane closures between the I-64 Interchange (Exit 1) and Military Highway (Exit 2) to Main Street (Exit 5) for sign safety inspection, Wednesday, September 22, through Friday, September 24, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

CHESAPEAKE
I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work. Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue Sunday through Thursday until the end of August 2011.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from I-264 Interchange (Exit 299) to Battlefield Boulevard (Exit 290) for guardrail repair, drainage improvements and paving operations, Sunday, September 19, through Friday, September 24, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.  Motorists should be alert for detours associated with on- and off-ramp closures.  Motorists should also expect shoulder closures.

I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect single mobile alternating lane closures between Bowers Hill and Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel for paving operations and guardrail repairs, Sunday, September 19, through Thursday, September 23, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the Portsmouth Boulevard bridge for bridge inspection, Tuesday, September 21, from 9 p.m. to noon.

GILMERTON BRIDGE
Route 13 - Motorists may experience short traffic delays due to flagging operations in the project work zone throughout the remainder of the project.  Daytime flagging operations will occur, stopping traffic in both directions for up to 10 minutes.

Motorists are asked to use extreme caution as work crews repair barrier walls on the traffic side of the wall.

Motorists are encouraged to use the I-64 High Rise Bridge as an alternative route to avoid delays. For more information, please visit the project website.

CHESAPEAKE/SUFFOLK
I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect single mobile alternating lane closures between the Bowers Hill I-62/264 Interchange (Exit 15) and College Drive (Exit 8) for sign safety inspections, Wednesday, September 22, through Friday, September 24, from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m.

NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from Newtown Road to Parks Avenue for pavement repairs, Sunday, September 19, through Thursday, September 23, from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from Newtown Road to Parks Avenue for roadway sweeping, Sunday, September 19, through Thursday, September 23, from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m.

VIRGINIA BEACH
I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile single ramp closures at Rosemont Road (Exit 18), for pavement markings, Monday, September 20, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile single ramp closures at Rosemont Road (Exit 18) and Lynnhaven Parkway (Exit 19), for pavement markings, Tuesday, September 21, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile single ramp closures Lynnhaven Parkway (Exit 19), for pavement markings, Wednesday, September 22, and Thursday, September 23, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from Newtown Road to Parks Avenue for pavement repairs, Monday, September 20, through Friday, September 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Witchduck Road North/South –Motorists should expect single lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road and at Anvers Road and Witchduck Road for asphalt demolition, Monday, September 20, through Friday, September 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SMITHFIELD

Route 258 East – Motorists should expect lane closures between Route 10 Business and Route 10/Route 32 Benn’s Church for paving operations, Sunday, September 19, through Thursday, September 23, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and Friday, September 24, from 7 a.m. to noon.

GREENVILLE COUNTY

Route 301 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures at the I-95 South on-ramp for milling and paving operations, Monday, September 20,  from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 614 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Route 301 to Route 617 for milling and paving operations, Tuesday, September 21,  from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 58 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Brunswick to Route 606 east for milling and paving operations, Wednesday, September 22, and Thursday, September 23, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday, September 24, from 7 a.m. to noon.

SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY

Route 189 South – Motorists should expect lane closures on the bridge over the Black Water River for bridge repairs, Monday, September 20, through Friday, September 24, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

ACCOMACK COUNTY

Route 13 North - Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Tasley overpass to Route 13 Business Accomac for paving operations, Monday, September 20, through Friday, September 24, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
