Freedom Park Reopens After Weekend FireBy Desiree Parker Monday, September 20, 2010 Freedom Park in James City County reopened Monday afternoon after a brush fire caused county officials to close the park Friday. County Fire and Park officials worked with the Virginia Department of Forestry to create a containment line to prevent further damage to the rest of the Park. Officials will continue to monitor the Park for any signs of new fires.
Residents near Freedom Park and the surrounding area may notice smoke that is expected to remain for up to several weeks, according to county staff. Freedom Park visitors should stay away from the containment line surrounding the burned section.
