Freedom Park Reopens After Weekend Fire

Freedom Park in James City County reopened Monday afternoon after a brush fire caused county officials to close the park Friday.

County Fire and Park officials worked with the Virginia Department of Forestry to create a containment line to prevent further damage to the rest of the Park. Officials will continue to monitor the Park for any signs of new fires.

Residents near Freedom Park and the surrounding area may notice smoke that is expected to remain for up to several weeks, according to county staff. Freedom Park visitors should stay away from the containment line surrounding the burned section.

The cause of this fire is still under investigation. The Virginia Department of Forestry will continue to work with the James City County Fire Marshall to determine just how this fire began. Thank you for posing the question.

BUT when will our Virginia Dept. of Forestry reveal to us locals exactly HOW the fire got started?
