VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: Sept. 26-Oct. 2By WYDaily Staff Sunday, September 26, 2010 In an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events. YORK COUNTY I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the Colonial Parkway overpass for bridge deck repairs, Sunday, September 26, though Thursday, September 30, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. NEWPORT NEWS/ HAMPTON I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Ft. Eustis to Toano Road for overhead sign maintenance, Wednesday, September 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-64 East – Motorists should expect lane closures from Hampton Roads Center Parkway (Exit 261) for sign safety inspection, Sunday, September 26, and Monday, September 27, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. JAMES RIVER BRIDGE Route 17 North/South – The James River Bridge will be closed to all vehicular traffic Thursday, September 30, from midnight to 4 a.m. for stop gate testing. Motorists should use an alternate route during the bridge closure. Route 17 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating mobile lane closures for for bridge safety inspection, Monday, September 27, through Friday, October 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Route 17 North – Motorists should expect alternating mobile lane closures for equipment positioning, Sunday, September 26, through Thursday, September 30, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Route 17 South – Motorists should expect single, alternating lane closures on the James River Bridge for beam end repairs, Sunday, September 26, through Thursday, September 30, from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday, September 25, to Thursday, September 30, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011. Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations. For more project information, please visit the VDOT website. I-64 West – Motorists should expect single right lane closures starting on the southwest bridge proceeding through the tunnel and ending on the north island, for tile and grate repair, Sunday, September 26, through Thursday, September 30, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. DOWNTOWN TUNNEL I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel sweeping, Tuesday, September 28, and Friday, October 1, from midnight to 4 a.m. I-264 East – Motorists should expect a single lane closure through the Downtown Tunnel for joint expansion rehabilitation, Sunday, September 26, through Friday, October 1, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. MIDTOWN TUNNEL Route 58 East – Motorists should expect single lane closures through the Midtown Tunnel for lighting and drainage maintenance, Sunday, September 26, and Monday, September 27, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Route 58 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures through the Midtown Tunnel for lighting and drainage maintenance, Tuesday, September 28, and Wednesday, September 29, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. NORFOLK I-64 West – Motorists should expect a right lane closure at the I-264 Interchange along with an Exit Ramp (Exit 284A) closure for soil test boring, Sunday, September 26, through Thursday, September 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. I-64 West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Chesapeake Boulevard for overhead sign maintenance, Wednesday, September 29, and Thursday, September 30, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from the I-264 Interchange to 15th View for pavement repairs, Sunday, September 26, through Thursday, September 30, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from the I-264 Interchange to 15th View for roadway sweeping, Sunday, September 26, through Thursday, September 30, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect right lane closures from the I-264 Interchange to Newtown Road Off Ramp (Exit 15) for soil test boring, Sunday, September 26, through Thursday, September 30, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-564 West Runway Tunnel – Motorists should expect a multiple lane closures for generator replacement and pumping system repairs, Monday, September 27, Wednesday, September 29 and Wednesday, September 29, through October 1, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Tuesday, September 28, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Motorists should expect complete traffic stoppages for up to 15 minutes for crews to access maintenance area. Hampton Boulevard Grading Project Motorists should expect a traffic shift on Hampton Boulevard onto a newly created detour road beginning Saturday, September 25, at 9 a.m. The six-lane detour roadway was constructed as part of the Hampton Boulevard Grade Separation Project. The detour road will provide access to both NIT and NAS facilities, while maintaining the same vehicle capacity as the current Hampton Boulevard. Ballentine Boulevard North/South at I-264 overpass– Motorists should expect the alternating lane closures on Ballentine Boulevard at the I-264 overpass/Westminster Avenue intersection for overpass cleaning, sandblasting and painting, seven days a week from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. through September 2010. Daytime weekend lane closures may also impact traffic. PORTSMOUTH I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect single mobile lane closures between Victory Boulevard (Exit 3) and Des Moines Avenue (Exit 6) for sign safety inspection, Monday, September 27, through Thursday, September 30, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-464 North/South – Motorists should expect single mobile lane closures at Military Highway (Exit 2) for sign safety inspection, Monday, September 27, through Thursday, September 30, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. CHESAPEAKE I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work. Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue Sunday through Thursday until the end of August 2011. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from I-264 Interchange (Exit 299) to Battlefield Boulevard (Exit 290) for guardrail repair, drainage improvements and paving operations, Sunday, September 26, through Friday, October 1, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists should be alert for detours associated with on- and off-ramp closures. Motorists should also expect shoulder closures. Route 168 By-Pass – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at the I-64 Interchange for overhead sign maintenance, Thursday, September 29, and Friday, October 1, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. GILMERTON BRIDGE Route 13 - Motorists may experience traffic delays due to daytime flagging operations in the project work zone, stopping traffic in both directions for up to 10 minutes. Motorists are asked to use extreme caution as work crews repair barrier walls on the traffic side of the wall. Motorists are encouraged to use the I-64 High Rise Bridge as an alternative route to avoid delays. For more information, please visit the project website. CHESAPEAKE/SUFFOLK I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect single mobile alternating lane closures between the Bowers Hill I-62/264 Interchange (Exit 15) and the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel for paving operations, Sunday, September 26, through Thursday, September 30, from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. VIRGINIA BEACH I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from Newtown Road to Rosemont Road for roadway sweeping, Monday, September 27, through Friday, October 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Witchduck Road North/South –Motorists should expect single lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road and at Anvers Road and Witchduck Road for asphalt demolition, Monday, September 27, through Friday, October 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY Route 10 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from the Suffolk city limits to the Route 32/258 Benns Church interchange for pavement marking, Saturday, October 2, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. GREENVILLE COUNTY Route 58 West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures to Route 640 east for milling and paving operations, Sunday, September 26, and Thursday, September 30, from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY Route 58 East – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on Camp Parkway at Delaware Road, for CCS repairs, Monday, September 27, through Thursday, September 30, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Route 35 North/South - Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the North Carolina state line to Route 58 pavement marking operations, Tuesday, September 28, through Thursday, September 30, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. SUSSEX COUNTY Route 460 East – Motorists should expect lane closures on Route 460 for guardrail repairs, Tuesday, September 28, from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Route 460 West – Motorists should expect lane closures on Route 460 for guardrail repairs, Wednesday, September 29, and Thursday, September 30, from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. EMPORIA Route 58 – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from the I-95 Interchange to Route 640 for pavement overlay maintenance, Saturday, September 25, through Thursday, September 30, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday, October 1, from 7 a.m. to noon. ACCOMACK COUNTY Route 13 North - Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Tasley overpass to Route 13 Business Accomac for paving operations, Monday, September 27, through Friday, October 1, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CHINCOTEAGUE BRIDGE Route 175 East - Motorists should expect shoulder closures for equipment placement for under bridge pile painting operations, Monday, September 27, through Friday, October 15, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. |
