York Investigates Armed Robbery, 'Flim-Flam' ScamBy WYDaily Staff Thursday, September 30, 2010 York-Poquoson Sheriff's deputies are investigating an armed robbery at an upper York motel, and a separate report of a pair of scam artists at the county's upper York Walmart.Deputies were called to the Best Western Williamsburg Inn, located in the 200 block of Bypass Road, just after 11 p.m. Tuesday. They learned that a male described as light-skinned and about 6-feet tall with a slender build had entered the motel, then pointed a pistol at the clerks as he demanded money. The clerks complied, according to police, and the suspect left the motel through the front door with an undisclosed amount of cash. He headed toward Waller Mill Road. There were no injuries reported. Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen something or who may know something about the robbery to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP. In a separate, unrelated incident, investigators are looking into a report of a "flim-flam artist" at the upper York Walmart on Rochambeau Sept. 21. Two men entered the store, with one heading to a cash register to purchase chapstick, and another placing a comforter on the counter to block anyone's view of the first man's hands. The man purchasing the chapstick kept asking the cashier for change and switching money around until he walked out of the store with $650. Both subjects also ran the same scam at the Tappahanock Walmart. Anyone with information about these scam artists are asked to also call the Crime Line. |
