Summertime York Burglary Solved

York County investigators got a little help from a neighbor in solving a summertime burglary.

And then they arrested him.

York Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Dennis Ivey, Jr. said a house in the 200 block of Rollins Way had been broken into on July 30. Taken was a laptop computer along with two iPods.

Investigators had hit a dead end with the case, but then on Oct. 4 the burglary victim reported that his wireless printer had printed a paper that had the name of a neighbor on it. Because the wireless network was secure, the victim knew the print job had been transmitted from his stolen laptop.

On Wednesday, investigators obtained and served a search warrant for the suspected residence, which is located in the same block as the victim's home.

Upon serving the warrant, police recovered the stolen computer and arrested a 14-year-old boy. Further investigation revealed the participation of a second 14-year-old boy, from whom one of the stolen iPods was recovered.

The first juvenile has been charged with one count of burglary and one count of grand larceny. Petitions for the same charges have been requested for the second boy.
